WDMCS Weather Notice Test Tuesday, Oct. 26

The West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) is getting ready for winter weather and will be testing the notification system at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26. This system helps keep students and staff safe by providing notifications of inclement weather or emergency situation school closings.

The message will be sent out as a phone call, text message, email, and app notification. IT IS ONLY A TEST. The phone call will come from 515-633-5599, and the text message will come from 606-08.

2021-22 Plan for "Snow Days"

WDMCS is returning to our pre-COVID plan for "snow days" in 2021-22. We will NOT have school on days if we need to close due to inclement weather. This means we will NOT transition to online learning on those days.

WILL THIS IMPACT STUDENTS WHO ARE ALREADY LEARNING ONLINE THROUGH EDGENUITY?
Students learning online through Edgenuity work independently and can choose whether or not they wish to complete work on a no school day.

HOW WILL WE FIND OUT IF WE DON'T HAVE SCHOOL?

As we have in previous years, the district will send out mass notifications to all WDMCS employees and families. This includes a voicemail, email, text, and WDMCS app notification.

If you did not update your contact information when going through our annual enrollment process this summer, please log into Infinite Campus and make sure we have your current email and phone numbers.

WHAT ABOUT LATE STARTS OR EARLY DISMISSALS?

There will not be any changes to our processes from previous years if we need to start late or dismiss early due to weather or other emergencies.

WILL WE NEED TO MAKE UP A SNOW DAY?
We do not have extra days built into our calendar to compensate for potential snow days. However, because we count the total number of instructional hours instead of days, it is possible we could have extra hours at the end of the school year. If that happens, we may not need to make up a snow day. The Board of Education approves whether or not snow days need to be made up.
