Dear Spring Branch Speaks Member,
We wanted to alert you to two upcoming events:
1) Town Hall with Rep. Jim Murphy.
Representative Jim Murphy will hold a Town Hall meeting at the Memorial Church of Christ (900 Echo Lane) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Representative Murphy will address the 85th legislative session. Please come and hear what your representative will be working on this session. He will also introduce his staff.
2) Rally Trip to Austin to Meet with Legislators.
Spring Branch Speaks is working with the Council of PTAs and Parents for Full and Fair Funding for Public Eduction to sponsor a bus trip to Austin on February 27 for Texas PTA Rally Day. The bus will depart at 6:30 a.m. from Chapelwood United Methodist Church and will return at 7 p.m. While in Austin we will be introduced from the floor at 10 a.m., will rally on the steps of the capitol building with others from across the state at 11:30 a.m. and will meet with our all of our state legislators. There is a small fee to ride the bus. If you would like to join us in Austin to lobby for education, complete details as well as a place to RSVP for the bus are available below.
Sign up to Get on the Bus! today! If you cannot travel to Austin but would like to write letters for us to carry to our legislators, sign up for letter writing is at the bottom of the bus sign up.
As you all know, SBISD is facing an unprecedented financial crisis that will impact our schools THIS FALL unless the legislature takes action this session. It is important that we let our legislators know that we care and we are watching.
Please join us at these upcoming events!
In the meantime, Spring Branch Speaks is tracking bills that may help alleviate some of the financial burden. We will keep you informed as these advance. For more information on recapture and the SBISD financial crisis including a helpful video explanation, click "School Finance" on the SBISD web site or click on the School Finance link below.
Thank you for your support!
