Soul Train
Destoney Young and Tai Hastings
How did Soul Train effect the Black Feminist Movement/the role of black women in music?
What is the context of your music? How did this music come to be? What important events occurred that were a result of this music OR how did this music cause an event to occur? What specific instruments are unique to this music? Who are its most notable artists?
Point of view
How does this music compare and/or contrast with music from another time period, geographic region, or genre of the time?
The music popularized and presented by the Soul Train was extremely diverse and different from any other television show or musical broadcast shown during the time period. The Soul Train broadcasted music from many different genres ranging from soul to disco and inspired the acceptance of black culture throughout the nation.. Also, the show was extremely integrated in every aspect of the show from musicians to its dance audience the show encouraged racial diversity. Shows like American Bandstand broadcasted mostly Rock ´n Roll musicians and made the American public more acceptable to rock music. However, the show was not very big on integration, although some black artist did appear on Bandstand their dance audience was extremely segregated and it was nearly impossible for a black teen to get on the show.
