Goals and Growth Mindset

With the nice weather, we all start longing for the summer days with no school schedule during the spring semester. However, we have a lot to learn to prepare our children for the next grade level. Please discuss with your child about having grit and perseverance to give the effort necessary to learn the tools they will need to access the next grade level.

I have been reading about student apathy; apathy in learning is an expression of indifference, lethargy, and disengagement in the classroom environment.

The following can help engage students:

1. Goal setting.

2. Parents define clear expectations for behavior and academic outcomes.

3. Consistent attendance.

4. Celebrate student success.

We have started celebrating our students' efforts. Teachers are daily practicing skills and strategies for students' success on each subject. Ask your child about their effort each day. We all know the more effort we put into our work, the more success we will have on the work.

Brock Intent to Return for 2022-2023 school year

If you have already filled out the form, you do not need to fill it out again.

It is important that we have correct residency information in order to plan for and staff the 2022-2023 school year. Your help will allow us to prepare for our students for next year. Please complete the information on this form and submit it by Friday, April 1, 2022. Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in your child's education. Please complete a separate form for each of your Brock students.

"Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education."

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  • Our "Essential 36" manner of the week: “Use an appropriate voice when speaking.”

  • It’s time for kindergarten to help with the announcements and Mrs. Beckwith’s class is going to be the first!

  • The city of Burleson proudly celebrates Vietnam War veterans at Veterans Memorial Plaza every year. For more information, click on Burleson Vietnam Veterans Celebration. The Burleson Fire Department Honor Guard will present the nation’s colors, raise the POW/MIA flag, lay a wreath, and play taps in tribute to military veterans.

  • The Burleson Parks and Recreation is hosting FREE family fun on Saturday, April 9. For more information, click on "Bunny Daze.”

  • The first concert of the Hot Sounds of Summer series is Friday, May 27 beginning at 7:30 pm at the Mayor Vera Calvin Plaza in Old Town Burleson. Each concert is free, so bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic, or eat at one of the nearby local restaurants. The band lineup will be announced soon!.

  • In Peace classes, Mrs, K, will introduce being “100 % Accountable”, another part of our “7 Mindsets” program.” At this age, many students need help understanding how to react when they experience negative emotions, such as embarrassment or confusion. This mindset teaches all of us that we are responsible for our own lives and how we are, the feelings we have, and the actions we take. Students will learn about self-management, decision-making, resilience, and growth mindset, which is Brock’s “Grit.”

Fostering a love of reading is one of the best gifts you can give your children and Mrs. K. has discovered that even her 4th and 5th graders love when she reads to them. You can reinforce the mindset of being “100% Accountable” at home by reading these books:

The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room by Stan and Jan Berenstein

Winners Never Quit by Mia Hamm

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by J. Viorst

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

Franklin Fibs by Paulette Bourgeois

Armadillo Tattletale by Helen Ketteman

The BISD Counselors have created a community resource list, so if your family is in need of assistance (economic, family support, crisis/emergency, health/wellness, or mental health), please contact Mrs. K. at 817-245-3800 or email jennifer.kirkpatrick@bisdmail.net. All information is kept confidential.

*****As always, Mrs. Kirkpatrick is here to serve you and your children! Stay well!*****
