We Need Your Help!
The FFMS PTSA has volunteer opportunities on the calendar, and we could really use your help!
We are looking for fun, enthusiastic, and creative people to join the committee for our FFMS 2020 8th Grade Spring Dance. It doesn’t matter if your child is in 8th Grade or not - all hands on deck! Teachers and staff are welcome also! We want to start brainstorming ideas for decorations, food, and entertainment for the event. Our first dance committee meeting will be held Tuesday, January 28th, at 5:30pm, in the main office conference room. If you're interested, please let us know at info@ffmspta.com.
In addition, please click here for a quick and easy way to help us show our teachers and staff how much they are appreciated! We're planning a little Valentine's Day treat for each of them and we'd love to have your support!
We appreciate your assistance and look forward to seeing and working with you!

Help Us Tell Our Story!
There is importance in telling the Five Forks Middle School story! If we don’t tell it - someone else just might, and it could very well be different from what we know. As you have seen from our many communication avenues: Bucky Connects, our updated website, and our weekly newsletter “The Hitching Post,” we work hard to keep the community up to date with all of the great things taking place at our school. With that said, we need your help to share your thoughts on the work that we are doing here at Five Forks.
The Georgia Department of Education has created an opportunity for you, the parents, to identify the great things that are taking place at Five Forks. Additionally, it will also provide us with areas for improvement. The survey also helps the Georgia Department of Education determine our score for CCRPI, which is a very important “report card” for our school.
Click here for the link to the Georgia Parent Survey. It will only take you a few minutes, and your feedback will be invaluable in telling the story of our awesome school. Thank you!
Run the Reagan!
We hope you'll join the Five Forks team for the annual Run the Reagan on Saturday, February 29, 2020. It's an event for everyone! Whether you're speedy or you want to relax and take it easy while having a great time, this event is for YOU! Please join us by registering for our team, "Five Forks Middle School." Remember, $5.00 from every team member registered comes back to our school! We hope to see you there!
Instructional Resource Review Committee!
Gwinnett County Public Schools is inviting parents and community members to apply for the district's Instructional Resources Review Committee (IRRC), a group charged with evaluating print and digital instructional resources for potential pilot in our schools. This year’s IRRC will review resources for select courses in the areas of Language Arts (grades 3-5 and high school), Social Studies (grades K-2, 6-8, and some high school), Career and Technical Education (grades 6-12), and Foreign Language (grades 6-12). Click here for the application.

Reminder!
Car Rider News!
Dear Parents,
With the increase in car riders this year, we really need the help of those of you who use our car rider lane in the morning and/or the afternoon.
Please help us keep our students and staff safe by adhering to the following:
· Morning & Afternoon Drop Off: Students should not arrive prior to 8:15 unless they have prior permission and a pass from a specific teacher or they are a student in Mr. O'Connor's Biology class. Supervised Study Hall is available from 8:15-9:00 am, and students arriving during that time will need to report directly to the gym from the car rider lane. For the safety and security of everyone at Five Forks, we are unable to accommodate students before 8:15am. In the afternoon, car riders should be picked up no later than 4:15pm.
· Drop Off in the Back of School: Students must be dropped off at the blacktop in the back of the school. Do not unload anywhere else (ex. the band/orchestra room entrance) as it backs up traffic and causes safety issues. Students should only unload at the sidewalk and should not walk among the cars at the back of the school to the blacktop. The only entry to the school is through the blacktop doors.
· Loading & Unloading: When you pull up to the drop off/pick up area, please load and unload quickly so that we can keep cars moving. Additionally, move up all the way up to the end of the side walk beside the gym.
· Car Rider Lane: The lane around the school is one way only. Please do not back up and/or drive the wrong way. In the afternoons, please know that we keep you in the order that you arrive so do not cross lanes when picking up your child in the afternoon.
· Students Should Pay Attention: In the afternoon, please ask your students to watch for your car. Our staff members will ask you to move up and we will send your child to you. Students are not permitted to use electronic devices during this time since they are a distraction during the dismissal process.
· Load on Driver’s Side: Whenever possible, please have your student get in on the driver's side. If they are going to the passenger side, please make sure that they walk in front of your car.
· Do not pass on the right when students are loading/unloading. This is a safety hazard and could put our children in harm’s way. Remain in the line unless you are directed by a staff member to safely pass.
· Whenever possible, have your child ride the bus. We have a number of students who do not take advantage of Help Sessions and just come in for Study Hall. Whenever possible, please have your child ride the bus.
Our staff members are working very hard to keep the lanes moving quickly and safely. Please follow their directions and support them.
We thank you for all that you do to support the safety of our students.
Sincerely,
Christine Douthart, Principal

Recycling News!
We also collect and recycle any size, any brand of dried-out/used markers. The Crayola Company has a wonderful recycling program and will even pay for shipping to their recycling facility. Just bring them to the front office and leave them for our amazing Art Teacher, Ms. Birmingham. Thanks for helping out!
Parents/Guardians,
