Middle School Transition Newsletter
Resources and Information for Locke Hill 5th Grade Parents
Important Information
On December 17th, I reviewed the 2021-2020 6th Grade Planning Guide with the students. This is a worksheet that was passed out to the students or a document that was shared Schoology for you to view with your student. We reviewed each course and the student's options for electives.
The first 2 weeks of January will be Middle School Registration for all 5th graders in NISD. I will complete this with the students during my counseling lesson on January 8th. Together the students and I will complete the course selections through a google form, provided by middle school counselors. This google form link is posted under each middle schools below and on my Schoology tile for the student to access in case they miss my lesson.
Towards the bottom of this page, I have also included information about NISD's two magnet middle schools. Both programs have a lot to offer our students. Our students received a presentation from the Magnet Middle School Counselors on December 9th.
The transition information can be a lot to take in. Please know I am here to guide, support, and educate with all transition information. I'm always available to answer any questions you may have. I will continue to post information on my Schoology Tile, my Transition Dojo Classes, and this newsletter. I will continue to provide updated information to our students during our weekly counseling lessons.

Rawlinson AVID Information
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a program that prepares students in the academic middle for admission to a college or university. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. Students take an AVID elective course throughout middle school and high school that provides them with the skills needed to be successful in advancing academically. AVID students at the middle school level prepare for advancing academically by taking Pre-AP core classes and high school credit courses, with the ultimate goal of attending college.
Rawlinson AVID Site Coordinator is Brandee Brandt and can be contacted via email at Brandee.Brandt@nisd.net.
