LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!:MAY 23RD!!

ReadOKC Summer Break Reading Challenge 5/24 - 8/9
Challenge dates: Wednesday, May 24-Wednesday, August 9
Tracking minutes: Students can record minutes online on Beanstack (accessed through Clever), or by submitting their minutes to their teacher on the attached reading log.
Deadline: Students submitting their minutes via reading log should turn in completed log to their teachers when they return to school on Thursday, August 10. Teachers may enter these minutes through Beanstack or the Google form, which I will send out after the break. Please do not record minutes that students have already entered into Beanstack. The deadline for teachers to submit their students’ minutes is Friday, August 18.
Goal: We are challenging students to read at least 20-minutes a day, which sets a goal to read 1,560 minutes or more over the break. Encourage students to meet this goal so they can win prizes and beat the “summer brain drain”!
Prizes:
The top Elementary, Middle, and High School will receive a fence banner to hang outside of your school to announce your accomplishment!
All students who meet the goal (1,560 minutes) will receive an award medal for completing the Summer Break Reading Challenge and will be eligible for additional prizes.
The top students at each school will be recognized with a special prize.

Common Sense Digital Media Tips for Families
We have been learning about being being good digital citizens while using tablets, phones, and TVs. Below is a link to a video about Parenting in a digital age, and also some tips for young children using devices. Please take some time to look them over. Together we can ensure that we are doing everything possible to keep our kiddos safe!

- Navy Blue Pants/Bottoms

If you send your child in a dress or romper, please put shorts underneath. We go outside for recess every day (unless it is raining!) and we have PE 3 times a week; plus PK students spend time on the floor every day for whole group activities.
Please do not send your child to school in sandals and flip flops! This is a safety hazard (please see above reference to recess and PE).
Reporting Absences & Illness
COVID - If your child is positively diagnosed with Covid, please call the office and ask to speak to Mrs. Huggins so that she can determine the date when it is safe for your child to return to school.
Please DO NOT send your child to school if they have a temperature of 100 degrees or more, if they have vomited in the last 24 hours, or if they have had diarrhea in the last 24 hours. If we work together, we can keep all of our students safe!
Arrival & Dismissal
ARRIVAL
The doors open every morning at 7:45am. We will begin unloading cars at that time. Just a reminder that we are no longer allowing parents to walk students to the classroom. All students will need to be dropped off through their assigned car loop. Students should be dropped off and picked up through the same car loop every day.School starts at 8am. Any students arriving after the car loop doors have closed will need to be walked into the office by an adult. Please do not send your older children into the office with your PK students. Students arriving late will be counted tardy on their daily attendance.
Johnson Pre-K starts 20 minutes EARLIER than the Elementary Schools, so that you are able to drop off your Pre-K students FIRST! When you bring them between 7:45 - 8am they will be able to come in and eat breakfast with their classmates.
**If your child is sick - running a temperature, vomiting, or diarrhea - they must be symptom-free for 24 hours before they are allowed at school. If your child is sick, please call 405-587-6700 and leave a message on the attendance line to report your child's absence. If your child tests positive for Covid, please call the office at the same number (select option 2) to find out when your child will be eligible to return to school.
DISMISSAL
Johnson Pre-K Dismissal is at 2:50pm. Parents should line up in the appropriate car loop line, and have the dismissal tag clearly displayed so that we can have your child lined up and ready to go when you get to the front. If you do not have the dismissal tag, you will need to bring a photo ID to the office to get one. For student safety, we do not allow pickups without a dismissal tag.
Johnson Pre-K dismisses 20 minutes EARLIER than the Elementary Schools, so that you are able to pick up your Pre-K students FIRST! All students must be picked up by 3pm, please!
Early Checkout ends at 2:30pm! If you need to check your child out early through the office, please be sure that you do that before 2;30pm. Between 2:30 and 2:50 students are transitioning, and we are dismissing daycare students through the front and there is no one available to bring students to the office.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Several of the streets surrounding the building are one way during arrival (7:30am - 8:30am) and dismissal (2:30pm - 3:30pm). Sheffield Rd is one way only going Northbound and Hasley Dr is one way only going West - this makes a clockwise circle around the building. Please be mindful of one way streets - NO LEFT TURNS out of the car loops. The Village Police Department is pretty lenient the first week or so, but they will issue citations to those not following one-way directives. Also, please do not block parking lot entrances. It is illegal, and it prevents staff and daycare from entering their designated parking and pickup areas.
Lastly, please be kind and gracious when in line to pick up your child. We are all working to make sure that we get kids dropped off and picked up as expeditiously as possible. Your patience is greatly appreciated!
Be Weather Aware!
Please be sure to put your child's name inside of their coats! We have several coats in the Lost and Found area, but there are no names, so that we can return it to the appropriate student. If your child has lost a coat and you would like to look through our Lost and Found items, please call the office to make an appointment.
REMINDERS!
- Students need their backpacks every day! Teachers send home daily folders with important information. Please be sure that you are checking your child's folder every day, and that you are taking out any work that their teachers send home.
- Everyone needs to have a complete change of clothing! This includes underwear and socks. This does not have to be a uniform, but they need a complete change of clothing available in case of emergency.
- School starts at 8am. We are staggered 20 minutes earlier than the elementary schools for arrival and dismissal. Please drop off and pick up your Pre-K students BEFORE your elementary students. We have had several late arrivals and pickups this week. It is very important that students arrive on time so that they do not miss out on important morning instruction. The beginning of the day is also a time when they get to visit with friends and get settled in for the day. - All students should be picked up no later than 3pm. It is very difficult for small children to be left behind after all of their classmates have left for the day. If there is an emergency and you are running late, please call the office to let us know.
