English Class Topic
If you have not emailed your topic to Robyn Brinks, the English Class Coordinator, please do that immediately! She will give you excellent advice about how to select your topic. This will help your first week of your English class go much smoother! You can also review her instruction here.
Remember, when choosing your topic try to be as specific as possible. Narrow your topic down by thinking of a specific question you want to answer.
Example: cars > hybrid cars > What is the popularity of hybrid cars in U.S.?
Email your topic to Robyn Brinks: rbrinks@stanford.edu
Family away from home
This summer we are thrilled to have an amazing group of coordinators who will be living with us in the dormitory, assisting you with your English homework and taking you on unforgettable adventures!
Each of you will be part of a coordinator group which consists of one coordinator and 9-10 ALC participants. We strive for diversity in each group so that you can meet people from other regions and with different backgrounds. The coordinators are a friendly, super fun bunch of folks, so feel free to read their self-introductions to get to know them!
August Schedule
This Friday we will post a current schedule on the ALC website. Just click this link on July 22nd to find out what awaits you.
Remember the schedule is tentative and additions or changes may take place.
If you have any questions, feel free to email us!
PACKING
The month of August will be a great opportunity for all of you to learn about other cultures and also to share your own. Feel free to bring an item to help introduce your culture to others (small and not heavy are best!). We will also have a Talent Show so keep that in mind as you pack :)
Please limit your luggage to ONE suitcase and one other bag such as a backpack. Remember that if you bring it, you must carry it! Also, you will probably want to buy some souvenirs while you are here, so don’t forget to leave some space in your luggage for the return trip!
Each year we have a Final Farewell Banquet where everyone is invited to dress up. You may want to pack one nice outfit for this event.
Also, there are free laundry facilities at the dormitory and we will provide detergent as well.
The suggested packing list information is here on the ALC website. In addition, please bring closed-toe shoes (e.g. not flip flops!) for volunteer activities.
Lastly, we will share with you the airport meeting point and other important information next week; so please keep checking your email!
