Seasons Greetings
As we approach the end of the second grading term, PHS students are busy with state testing and studying for final exams. Students will take blocks three and four final exams on December 20, and blocks one and two final exams on December 21. December 21 is also an early release day with a dismissal time of 10:50 a.m. The school counseling office will be closed during winter break and we will return on January 3; however, the high school main office will have limited hours during break. Please check the high school webpage for posted hours of operation. As always, please reach out if we can assist you or your student in any way.
Junior Jumpstart
The school counseling department will meet with juniors over the course of the second semester for Junior Jumpstart. Junior Jumpstart is a time when the School Counseling Team meets with members of the class of 2024 during their Government class. We use this time to talk with juniors about the college application process including registering for the ACT, financial resources like LEAF, and the college search tool found in Scoir. Junior Jumpstart meetings also emphasize a variety of alternatives to college like apprenticeships, trade career pathways, and the military. Students can view this resource below as they begin thinking about their next steps:

Scholarships
Seniors may begin applying to local scholarships, which are posted on our Perry High School counseling website under the Scholarship tab. We post scholarships as we receive them so be sure to check frequently. If students are looking for national scholarships they may create free accounts on the Going Merry website. Some scholarships require official transcripts, which can be requested in the counseling office through Mrs. Sorine. Please allow three days to process all transcript requests. See Mrs. Gigante or Mrs. Holderman with any questions.
Upcoming Dates
Juniors will have an opportunity to take the ACT for free at PHS on February 28. While juniors take the ACT, sophomores will take the Pre-ACT as a practice test.
The majority of Advanced Placement courses occur during second semester. At the start of the semester, Mrs. Gigante will assist students in registering themselves into their MyAP account. Once students complete their registration, they will use this account to enroll in their specific AP courses. By registering their MyAP account and joining these courses online, students are opting in to take the exam. If students would like to opt out of taking the exam, they should not join the AP class online for which they do not want to take the exam.
The next eligibility check is December 21 when term two ends. Students must have a 2.00 GPA or higher, no Fs nor Incompletes to be eligible. This is based on the term two grade, not the semester final course grade.
