Updates for the Week
Here are some updates for the week of March 8-12. Thanks to everyone for your help with last week’s Read Across America week. The kids enjoyed the dress up days and really enoyed the delicious cupcakes provided by PTO on Friday. We’d like to say thank you to Mrs. St. John for organizing this fun event. To keep the focus on reading going for the whole month of March, we’ve shared a 25-day reading challenge on purple paper with student (see below). We challenge students to read in all these different ways, record it, and return the form to Mrs. St. John for a special prize on March 31.
We are currently accepting enrollments for next year’s kindergarten class. Students who will be five on or before August 30, 2021 are eligible. Please see our “Hello Kindergarten” page below and on our website for more details. https://www.smore.com/csa5t
Strawbridge Studios will be here on Tuesday to take individual spring pictures. We sent home picture forms Friday, and you can choose from several designs and packages. These pictures typically feature more of a student’s personality, so feel free to dress your child or send props as desired. If you’d like to have your child’s picture taken, please return the picture envelope to school with payment.
This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in NC. Our teachers will be reviewing procedures for severe weather awareness with students, and we will have the scheduled statewide tornado drill on Wednesday morning at 9:30.
We are still taking orders for our 2021 yearbook. The cost is $25, and we will only order yearbooks for those who order in advance. You can order a yearbook by returning the envelope and payment to school OR by ordering directly online from our website. At this point, we have sold only 100 yearbooks when we usually sell about 200. The deadline is March 31. If you need another form or need help ordering, please contact Mrs. St. John. https://wes.wilkescountyschools.org/apps/news/article/1348791

We look forward to a great week. It’s been a year of adjustments, and we’re grateful for your patience, support, and encouragement from home. Thank you!

Parents, please note that since we have moved to Plan A, students who are participating in Plan A will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes as usual and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. If your child is officially quarantined or excluded by the health department and/or the school nurse, your teacher will offer remote learning. If your child participates and submits work each day, the student will be marked PRESENT OFF SITE (1R). If not, the quarantine absences would be excused. If your child needs to be out, we will work with you to make sure your child doesn't get behind.
For students who continue with remote learning note that in order for us to count your child in attendance off site, we must on a daily basis verify that the student is engaged (completing and submitting assignments), on pace (participating in the virtual classroom), or receiving academic/emotional support (directly from the teacher). If this isn't happening, your child will be counted absent. Please make sure that your child is submitting work and that you are communicating with the teacher daily. Thanks in advance for your help!
