New Year, New Start

Happy New Year! I hope that each of you are as excited as I am to get a fresh start in a 2016. For some of us, this means keeping up with the hard work that has made us successful. For others, this means taking a look at what didn't work for us in the past, and beginning some new habits. Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to a successful 3rd Quarter, which will bring us right to the doorstep of I-STEP this spring.

As we kick off our first week of the quarter, we'll be diving into Science and Social Studies texts for reading, and looking at how we can make connections between people, events, and themes in these informational texts. In Science we'll be discussing the systems that make our bodies work, and our Social Studies discussion will turn toward the Southern Colonies. Finally in Math, we'll begin looking about how we use what we've learned about equivalent fractions to help us add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions, along with some further review of fraction basics in Success groups.

As always, please make sure that you are checking planners nightly, as we will have homework in Math and Science nightly, along with work that students may not have completed in our other content areas. Also, there is a weekly Syllabus in English/Language Arts/Spelling, that you may want to review with you student each evening. Again, this quarter, I will not be accepting late work, so Power School should be accurate within a day of any assignment being due. Hopefully this will help students and parents to keep track of their grades, and know where they stand at any given time.
