November 9, 2022
Panther families,
Please remember to join us for Walk and Roll to school day in honor of Ruby Bridges on Wednesday, November 16th! We'll have TK/K meet at 7:40 at Penngrove Park and grades 1-6 meet at 8pm for our walking school bus! We have fun prizes for all!
I want to take a moment to talk about attendance. Timely attendance is vital to student success. Of course, we understand things come up, and sick days are unavoidable. However, please do your best to schedule family trips, and any appointments on our scheduled days off to ensure your child's success at school, both academically and socially. Studies show that attendance is the number one predictor of course failures, reading ability and high school drop out, even beginning in kindergarten. If you need help getting your student to school on time, please reach out to me and I will do everything within my power to assist.
Stay awkward, brave and kind!

Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
Something that money can't buy, which I am grateful for is:

The Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports focus for this week is for students to follow the expectations for the library. Students need to use the library for it's intended purpose and use an appropriate voice level.
Please join us on Zoom Monday 11/14 for the Penngrove PTA Association Meeting

A note about volunteers
Penngrove Elementary is very fortunate to have the ability to host such amazing events like Jog-a-thon, Harvest Festival, and Movie Night, but none of these events are possible without volunteers.
The Friends of Penngrove Parent Teacher Association welcomes all members of our community to help in the planning and execution of the events we host. From joining a planning committee, volunteering a shift for the day of the event, and making decorations at home; there are many ways to help.
If you are interested in helping continue the magic that these events create for our students, please feel free to attend the next association meeting this Monday, the 14th, via Zoom to learn how you can help, or email Adrien McGoon at fopptavp@gmail.com
Harvest Festival
Thank you to everyone involved in making the return of the Harvest Festival a spectacular success.

Hello Friends!
I hope you are enjoying this wonderful rain bringing us out of fire season and towards the winter. There is so much going on up in the garden even as we shift to longer nights and colder temperatures. First off here is the link for next weeks schedule it is a little different than normal to try and fit classes into the shorter days. Thanks for being flexible and no stress if you cannot make your volunteer time because it has changed.
This week I am taking a Pollinator Workshop at the Occidental Arts and Ecology center with the hope of starting native pollinator habitat across campus partnering with the School Garden Network of Sonoma County. I look forward to sharing about what I learn with the students!
I am really looking forward to getting students back in the garden next week raking leaves, noticing what has changed since they were last here and studying the glorious turkey of course! Stay well and don’t forget to spend time outdoors with your student enjoying the change of the season. The colors of the changing leaves and puffy clouds and rainbows!! It is so exciting this time of year.
With Gratitude,
Ms. Ortiz
