We Skyped!

Our third grade class has connected with Mrs. Werner's third graders in Wisconsin! On Thursday, November 19th, we skyped with Mrs. Werner's class to discuss the book we've both been reading, Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. The students shared their favorite characters, memorable scenes, questions they were wondering about and book recommendations. It was fun to see how both classes were big fans of certain books, like Raina Telgemeir's graphic novels Sisters and Smile. We are excited to Skype again later this year! Thank you to Mrs. Corazzata, our SEM librarian, for helping us with our Skype!

SEM Barnes & Noble Night- December 2nd! Mark your calendars!

Mindset Monday!

A teacher at Albany Avenue, Mrs. McDonald, inspired me to try "Mindset Monday" with our class. The idea is that each Monday we will take some time to work on ways to promote a growth mindset. When you have a growth mindset, you believe that you can learn new things that are challenging. If you ever told yourself, "I'm no good at math and I never will be" that is an example of a fixed mindset. Research has shown that people are happier and more successful when they have more of a growth mindset and believe that they can improve and learn through perseverance, flexibility, and hard work.

This week, we will watch this video about basketball player Stephen Curry- "success is not an accident." I invite you to watch this video too and talk with your child about ways that you have worked hard, too!
