December Newsletter
December 1, 2020
Dear Red River Families,
It is hard to believe December is upon us, and we will soon be breaking for the holiday vacation. The first part of the school year has gone by quickly and we are grateful to have had students in the building for the past 12 weeks. As we transition to remote learning over the next 17 days, November 30-December 22, it will be essential for students to continue with the momentum and progress they have made to date. The end of the 1st semester is near and by working together we can make it a positive learning experience for all students as we end the first half of the year.
In addition to remote learning, December is also the month when we start planning for the 2021-2022 school year. Parents and guardians of sophomores will be notified in December regarding their scheduled appointment for conferences in January and February. All other students will begin registering in February. Counselors will be providing more information as we get closer to the registration dates. For those junior and senior students enrolled in dual credit classes, registration packets will be available mid December. Parents, we encourage you to spend some time talking with your child and his/her counselor about appropriate classes for next year. Watch for information that will be coming to your homes about the registration process.
Included in this newsletter is important information related to our current remote learning model. Please work with your student(s) to be sure they are aware of the essential information. (All students were sent an email with a video presentation and schedules last week).
Thank you for your support during the first semester. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns please do not hesitate to call. Thank you!

Monthly Cohort Calendar
Hybrid A/B days rotate each day and the pattern is not skipped due to holiday breaks, snow days, etc. If a week ends on a Cohort A day, the next day school is in session will be a Cohort B day.
If there is an unexpected school closure such as a snow day, the A/B schedule stays on the same rotation but is pushed back by the number of days the school is closed. For instance, if the last school day in session is a Cohort A day and the school is closed for a day due to weather, when the school reopens it will be a Cohort B day.
The Day 1/Day 2 schedule is only important for students that are enrolled in classes that meet EOD, every other day (Choir, Band, and/or Foundations of Fitness).

HOSA
It has been a wonderful month for Red River High School HOSA! At the November HOSA meeting, students attached a positive message to 1,000 suckers which were handed out to all the students and staff at Red River High School. We ended the face-to-face portion of the 2020 school year by delivering a bag of Positive Pops to each classroom for everyone to enjoy. It was a great way to leave a positive impact on the school before transitioning to online learning.

Parents Lead
Influential Factors
One of the most influential factors during a child’s adolescence are maintaining a strong, open relationship with a parent/guardian. When we each create supportive and nurturing environments, children make better decisions. Though it may not always seem like it, children hear concerns, which is why it’s important that parents/guardians discuss the risks of using alcohol and other drugs. How do you start the conversation? Visit www.parentslead.org.
