Week 8, Term 3 Newsletter
Tēnā koutou katoa! Greetings everyone!
Ko tenei wiki, ko te Wiki o te reo Māori! This week is Māori Language Week, and while it is not new for us, this year is significant because it marks the 50th anniversary of te Petihana Reo Māori - the Māori Language petition which made way for te reo Māori to be spoken and finally recognised as an official language of Aotearoa New Zealand in 1987. We have come such a long way since then... but we can do better! Ka pai ake tātou!
Over the course of this week, we have been treated to whakawhānaungatanga with Primary and our littles from Footprints, joining together for mihi, karakia, waitaia, and kanikani! Mrs Dallas has been teaching rakau through movement and dance. Some teachers have been using games in their lessons to encourage the use of te reo Māori. And to end the week, Matua Pops and Tyler have blessed our tamariki with a traditional boil-up. Tino reka te kai - delicious! We also have 6 staff who will be graduating online from their te reo Māori course through Te Rekamauroa on Saturday - Mrs Naude, Mrs Dallas, Whaea Alice, Mr and Mrs Shanks and myself.
It was very sad to hear about the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last Friday morning. For seven decades she has been in reign and much of her life was dedicated to her duties and her people. She led in some difficult times in history, and from such a young age after the passing of her father. We will remember her for being steadfast, constant, and dutiful. Moe mai e te rangatira, moe mai, moe mai. Okioki i runga i te rangimarie. Okioki ki nga ringa o to tatou Matua i te rangi.
I love the scripture in the Bible from 2Corinthians 1:3-4 which says - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." This is such a great verse and reminder that God comforts us in our darkest times so that we are able to have the strength to give others help and strength during their worst times. We look to God as an example of how to provide comfort and love during times of sorrow.
Blessings,
Mrs. Tina Takimoana
Acting Principal
Verse for the week:
"Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.”
Colossians 4:6

Meet our 2022 KALS Prefects - Lana Harrison - Prefect
Kia Ora my name is Lana Harrison and I am a year 13 prefect at Kaitaia Abundant Life School. In my free time I like to go and help out in the community. I do this by volunteering as a Surf Lifeguard in Ahipara and umpiring netball on Thursday nights. I was born and raised in Kaitaia, I am the second eldest out of my three siblings and I am the only girl. When I finish my school year I have a dream to do a bachelor of nursing degree (BN) where I can gain the experience to be able to travel the world. I enjoy hanging with my friends, going to the beach and also going to the gym. Some scriptures that have stood out to me are;
1 Timothy 6:11
"But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness."
Ephesians 4:32
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”.
