An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment.
Central idea: Discovery of electricity and magnetism inspires technological advancements.
Key concepts: function, connection, perspective
Related concepts: circuits, conductors, insulators, magnetism, electromagnetism technological advancements
Lines of inquiry:
- Circuits and their application (function)
- Magnets and electromagnetism (causation)
- How to create technologically advanced solutions (perspective)

What Are We Learning This Unit?
Our Unit of Inquiry
Math
We are still working super-hard on multiplication! We have learned different strategies like partial products, area model, and the standard algorithm. Next, we'll be diving into division and using different strategies to solve it as well, like place value, area model, and the standard algorithm. Our goal is to understand what is happening to numbers in each place value as they are being multiplied or divided so that using the standard algorithm make sense.
English Language Arts
In Arabic, Students are learning about the prayer and how we ask and answer the questions related to the prayer (أين تصلى؟ متى تصلى؟ هل صليت).
Groups works:
- level 1: They are studying the story of (إلى المسجد), and it is a simple story has the simple questions and answers about the prayer, the sentences in this book are formed from 2 or 3 words and all the students practiced on it.
- Level 2: They are studying the story of (حى على الصلاة), and it has more information about the prayer and the sentences in this book are formed from more than 4 words. This book is helping the students to learn how to form the questions and the answer and how we change the sentences from the present to the past tense.
Qur'an:
- Students learned the Madd letters and the conditions of the Madd and how to identify it from the Mushaf.
- Students still working on reading the second Juzaa of Surat Al-Baqarah.
- Groups work:
- فريق الكواكب: Memorizing Surat Al-Qalam.
- فريق النجوم: Memorizing Surat Al-fajr.

Islamic Studies:
- Students learn the battle of Badr and the learned lessons from this battle and they did a project to show their understanding of it. Also, students recited the verses from Surat Al-Anfaal which is describing this battle.
- Students learned the Wajibat of the prayer (the required acts), and what acts of prayer that if we missed, our prayer will not be accepted.
Art
Islamic geometric patterns
Students used two paper template to trace and cut two islamic geometric patterns using foam sheets,
they prepared these shapes to use in the collaborative tile collage on canvas.
They developed dexterity and craftsmanship by precisely cutting, they also observed how precision is an important characteristic in Islamic geometric arts where numerous different geometric shapes fit together with no gaps or overlaps.
Islamic foam tiles collage on canvas
Finally students assembled all the shapes and glued them on a canvas using mod podge to mimic Islamic geometric tile work.
Students reflected on the precision and craftsmanship needed in Islamic geometric arts and also observed how the lines and shapes are connected in the final collage.
Islamic geometric design on Wood
Students followed steps to trace a serie of guiding lines to create the geometric pattern using a ruler and a pencil.
