It's Been a Great Week at Hoover!
CELEBRATING OUR TIGERS
Today we celebrated the accomplishments of our Hoover Tigers during the second 9 weeks. We had 34 Character Counts award earners and we presented 13 Hoover Tigers with their Stripes. Mrs. Harris' class and Mr. Spencer's class earned bragging rights and the traveling best attendance trophies.
Congratulations to all of our students for their accomplishments during the second 9 weeks and thank you to all of our teachers and parents for supporting our students and encouraging them to do their best each and every day!

The second semester means it's time to start thinking about state assessments. The following windows have been set for elementary state assessments:
IREAD March 16-April 3, (3rd graders, Parents of any 4th or 5th graders who need to take IREAD will be contacted by the school)
ILEARN April 20-May 15 (Grades 3-8)
*I AM April 6-May 15 (Only administered to Special Education students who have this alternative state assessment identified in their individual education plans.)
Please schedule any appointments outside of these windows, or after 12:30 PM on testing days.
Notes from the Nurse
Headaches and migraines are common in school age children. I see several students a week with complaints of headaches. According to Nick DeBlasio, a pediatrician at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, about 10% of school-age children experience them from time to time. There are many triggers for headaches. Here are a few common causes (courtesy of cincinnatichildrens.org):
Inadequate Hydration: not drinking enough fluids is one of the biggest causes.
Diet: if your child does not eat regular meals, for example, skips breakfast, that can trigger a headache.
Sleep: not sleeping enough at night can cause a headache; children should be getting at least 10 hours of sleep each night.
Stress: we all experience stress at some point in our lives, and this is the same for children, if they are experiencing some sort of stress at home or at school, it can trigger a headache.
Vision Problems: if your child has trouble seeing and strains a lot, this can result in a headache.
Family history: your child is most likely to experience headache if one or both parents have them as well.
When a student comes to see me in clinic with a headache, I try W.O.W before giving medication:
If the student returns and still complains of a headache, I will then give Tylenol or Ibuprofen if consented.

Students will receive their second semester club schedules when we return from winter break. Second semester clubs will resume on January 13, 2020. Keep in mind that clubs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Being in a club first semester does not guarantee you a spot in clubs during second semester. Some clubs required full-year participation commitment and are not open to students second semester.
