Mrs. Schleicher's Schmooze

Mrs. Schleicher's Weekly Class Newsletter January 20-23

What an amazing group of kids! I was so proud of how well they led Kabbalat Shabbat today! And, the best was that they showed how close they all are by this amazing picture!

What Did We Learn This Week?

Language Arts

Our spelling rule this week was "bossy r" with /ar/ and /or/ words. In grammar we started learning about action verbs! We continued to work on our final copies of our creative Super Kid Glasses stories. For comprehension, we learned how to take a test over all of the comprehension skills we had learned this year. This test is called CARS. First, I modeled how to take this test and then we took pretest 2. I graded them and sent them home in your child's Friday folder. Please have your child correct the test over the weekend. Then, sign it and return it on Monday. This was our first attempt at this kind of test. I noticed that the most popular missed questions were fact/opinion and author's purpose. We will spend time reviewing these skills and when we take tests, they will all be averaged as a grade on our report cards.

Math

In math this week we moved onto our next topic: graphing! We first learned how to make line plots, then we reviewed pictographs and bar graphs. We ended the week starting our own graphing project where we got to pic the topic, conduct a survey to collect data, and then transferred that data onto a graph!

Science

We wrapped up our Geology Unit this week and took our test. I think all the students agree that GEOLOGY ROCKS!! I was very proud of the results of our test and they are in your child's Friday folder. Next up, we begin a new unit in Science learning all about simple machines.

Hebrew

Dear 2nd grade parents,

In Hebrew class, this past week, we took a deep breath and reviewed all the letters we have learned so far:

א, ו, י, נ, ן, ג, ה, ר, ב, ס, ש, ח, ק, ד, כ, ך, ז, מ, ם

We practiced all the Hebrew cursive letters we know, using smart board activities and work sheets. We even had a spelling test.

Here is a great activity to review Hebrew with at home:
