TikTok Trend

DVUSD is aware of a troubling post that has been shared widely this week on the social

media platform TikTok. The post refers to a threat to school safety “for every school in the USA,

even elementary,” on Friday, December 17. The post appears to be part of a national TikTok

trend and did not originate in our school district. We have heard reports from other districts that

the same post is circulating in their schools. Nothing in the post indicates that any DVUSD

schools are targeted. We have spoken with local law enforcement, who feel the information is

This situation serves as a good example of why it is important to avoid sharing posts online that

refer to school safety threats. Even if they are not credible threats, they can cause a great deal

of stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff. We ask our families to monitor their

children’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online. If you or your

child become aware of any potential threat posted to social media or anywhere else, please

notify a school staff member or trusted adult right away.

DVUSD Announced Dr. Schwarting as the Principal of the New Elementary #32

You may have already heard the news, but just in case you have not, I wanted to share this announcement with you. I will finish out the 21-22 school year at Desert Mountain School, but as of June 2022, I will assume the principalship of Elementary #32, the district's newest school.

It was with a bittersweet feeling that I accepted this new journey, as I have loved every minute of my six years as principal of Desert Mountain. Our community has a very special culture and I'm going to greatly miss our staff, students, and families.

The district is currently in the process of selecting the new principal for Desert Mountain School. Again, I will finish the 21-22 school year here and the new principal will start at the beginning of the new 22-23 school year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 623-445-3521. Have a wonderful holiday break!

New Quarantine Update

Here is a quick summarization of changes to our quarantine policy starting January 4, 2022:

  • K-6/K-8/MS Parent Communication - Parents will be notified when their child(ren) has been identified as a close contact. Parents have the option to have their child quarantine or they can continue sending child(ren) to school provided they have no symptoms.
    • Parents of those believed to be close contacts should have no expectation for the exact timing of notification. School notification to families of students who are believed to be close contacts may occur during the school day or after school. Schools may use Blackboard messenger (email and/or robocall/text features) to contact families. DVUSD schools aim to notify students and students' parents/guardians if the student is identified as being a close contact within 24 hours of confirming such information.

DVUSD Offers Covid-19 Testing

DVUSD will offer COVID-19 testing on December 28, 2021 and through January on Tuesdays & Fridays from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at the district office You and also www.dvusd.org/covidtesting for more information.

Please Help Support our HAWK Store and Cart!

Our second quarter is off to a great start! We are continuing to work on supporting students with positive behavior through our PBIS and All Things EQ. Our “kindness campaign” is very successful and we at Desert Mountain would like to see it continue. Students are able to earn HAWK (Honorable, Accountable, Willing, Kind) bucks for positive behavior. We are asking for donations for our HAWK store. Desert Mountain students love being able to earn HAWK bucks and spend it at the store. Many of our item purchases are from Amazon, Oriental Trading, Dollar store or something similar. If you would like to donate items or money, please contact Patti Atchley at patti.atchley@dvusd.org or 623-445-3504. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
