What's Up @ West

PV West Meet The Teacher Night

Meet The Teacher Night at West for all parents will be taking place this Thursday September 15th from 7:00-8:40pm. The evening will consist of opportunities to meet your children's teachers, learn more about a variety of subject areas and supports, and tour different parts of our beautiful building.

MTTN Schedule - Please see the MTTN Schedule below.

MTTN Parking - As you arrive, parking attendants will assist you to a parking lot and spot on our campus. We encourage parents to carpool as we are anticipating a large attendance.

STAR and LinkIt Assessments

Over the next couple weeks all West students will participate in the STAR and LinkIt assessments. The ELA and Math STAR assessments (approximately 25 minutes in length) will be given in ELA and Math classes sometime during the week next week. The ELA and Math LinkIt Benchmark assessments will be given on Tuesday September 20th and Wednesday September 21st.

The STAR Assessments by Renaissance, STAR Reading and STAR Math, are comprehensive literacy and math universal screeners that are computer adaptive. These assessments will provide teachers with current, reliable and valid data quickly so they can target instruction, monitor progress, provide students with instructional materials, and intervene and enrich where needed. Student reports will be provided to families after each assessment.

The LinkIt! Benchmark assessments help teachers determine student progress on specific topics in Language Arts and Math that are expected learning in a particular grade level/course. The LinkIt! assessments indicate progress on state standards, assisting teachers to target areas of instruction.

LinkIt! Benchmarks will occur a minimum of two times during the school year.

The following provides parents with more information on the STAR Assessments and the LinkIt! Benchmarks and how they are used

Maximizing instructional time for our students is paramount and performance data supports our teaching staff in designing more purposeful and targeted instruction. Our goal is to make sure that every child is on target for success, and we thank you for your continued efforts at home.

Big picture

Counselor's Corner

Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In fact, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month —a time to raise awareness of this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. We use this month to shift public perception, spread hope and share vital information to people affected by suicide. Our goal is ensuring that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help.

We are a collaboration of community leaders, clinicians, students, school district representatives, and families who believe that having meaningful, inclusive conversations about substance use and addiction will support individuals and their families in their efforts to develop healthy coping skills and access support whenever there is a need.
