Types of Rocks
There are three different types of rocks. Those are called sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rock.
Melting
Melting is a process that forms igneous rock. In the rock cycle, metamorphic rock melts and becomes magma. Eventually, the magma will become lava and cool, creating igneous rocks.
Lithification
Lithification is a process that forms sedimentary rock. Sediments will form pressure from being on top of one another, and different types of rock will form layers with each other to make visible stripes. This is what creates the sedimentary rock.
Metamorphism
Metamorphism is a process that forms metamorphic rock. Different types of rocks will produce pressure underground, and the heat and pressure compacts rocks together. This is what makes metamorphic rock.
Crystallization
Crystallization is a process that makes igneous rock. After magma is made, it will eventually come to the Earth's surface and become lava. Then, lava will cool and become igneous rock.
Weathering
Weathering is a process that makes sedimentary rock. After igneous rock is formed, weathering will decompose and disintegrate to make sediments. Next, lithification will occur, making sedimentary rock.
Volcanoes
Volcanoes are a land form made when magma rises to the Earth's surface. When the magma becomes lava, it will cool. That makes igneous rocks.
The Rock Cycle
The rock cycle is a cycle where all rocks are formed. In the rock cycle, you will see the three types of rock, what rocks are made of, and processes that make a rock.
Volcanic Eruptions
Volcanoes can also be underwater. When underwater volcanic eruptions occur, the lava will instantly cool and make igneous rock.
Metamorphic Rock
Metamorphic rock can be formed by any type of rock. Pressure underground makes other rocks come together and make metamorphic rock.
All Rocks
All rocks can be made from any type of rock. When igneous rock goes through metamorphism, it becomes a metamorphic rock. When metamorphic rock goes through weathering, it becomes sediment and eventually becomes sedimentary rock. When sedimentary rock goes through weathering, it becomes sediment.
