Make Your Mark!

Bulldogs, THANK YOU for showing up on Monday's Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We had so many families come through with donations for our partner organization Anew. We also want to give a shout out to our many volunteers, including Mrs. Lindquist and our Homewood Rotary Early Act student club members. Nice work!

Congrats to our social work team, Ms. Duplessis and Mrs. Wesley, on their recent grant award. The National Jewish Council of Women awarded the team $570 for special hands-on art projects to take place with their Girl Power club members. We want to thank them for this opportunity and their generosity.

Churchill Olympians will be participating in Special Olympics Basketball Tournament on Sunday, January 22nd at Evergreen Park High School beginning at 8:30am. Students have worked hard the past few months on developing and strengthening their basketball skills of passing, dribbling, shooting hoops, following directions, and teamwork. Wish them luck!

Thank you also to our PTA for their support for an upcoming 3rd grade field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry.

Families, THANK YOU for your ongoing support. We appreciate all of the efforts being made to create a safe arrival and dismissal and overall experience here at Churchill. We appreciate the ways in which you are communicating with our team and engaging in opportunities to contribute to our school program and long-term goals. You and your child(ren) make Churchill such a special place to grow and learn. Please be on the lookout for your opportunity to share your Churchill experience via the University of Chicago 5Essentials family survey. We want to hear from everyone!

Please take a moment to thank a Churchill staff member!

Big picture

STAR Testing - Reading and Math

An important part of monitoring our students' progress each year is the STAR test which is administered in the fall, winter, and spring. Students will be taking this assessment next week (winter). Please encourage them to do their best so they can show how much they have grown this school year.

Midterms

We are approaching midterms of our second trimester. Next week, we will notify all families to log-in to parent portal to see your child's most up-to-date grades in all classes.

Attendance

Your child's attendance is very importance to their success. We are asking that you make every effort to have your child to school on time and ready to learn each school day (bundled for the weather, water bottle, laptop, etc.). Also, refrain from checking your child out early. A child consistently arriving late and/or leaving early can be very disruptive to their learning and the learning taking place in the classroom. Notifications will be sent from our office and our student support team will be working with students and families that may be struggling with attendance and tardies.

Human Growth and Development Health Presentation (5th Grade only)

Our 5th grade students will participate in a human growth and development presentation on Monday, January 23rd. Please see the earlier communication send by our social work team and reach out with any questions.

Save the Date

Throughout the month of February, Churchill will be celebrating Black History month in a variety of ways. We hope you will save this date - Thursday, February 16th from 5-7pm. We want to invite everyone to join us. More details will be shared soon!

School-Home Partnership
