Second Grade News
Week of April 30 - May 4
Reading and Language Arts
This week in reading, we have been talking about ways that we can protect the earth. We are reading fictional stories with characters, problems, and solutions. This week's story was "The Woodcutter's Gift." The main character thought of a way to reuse and repurpose the wood from a fallen mesquite tree. The skill that 2nd graders have been working on in reading is problem and solutions. Today the 2nd graders wrote about problems they see around Hendricks and then came up with solutions that our community can do to help take care of Earth and its resources.
Math
This week we started a new unit. We are learning how to recognize patterns and to determine input and output rules. We've been practicing coming up with rules, making input and output robots, and then having our friends guess what our rule is.
Batty about Bats!
This week in science, we are learning about bats and the importance of bats in our ecosystem. After reading all about bats, and filling out truths and myths about bats, 2nd graders designed their own t-shirts that explain the importance of bats in our world.
