Paper Gardens Writing Competition
Each year, the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County sponsors a writing contest that is free for students. Students in all grades can enter their poetry and prose in several categories. The entry window opens Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.
Winning submissions are included in a book published in the spring. Click to find out more.
Survival Swim
We so appreciate our School Board, which prioritizes moving beyond meetings and gets out into the schools to see firsthand what’s happening. Two of our board members, Larry Vollmer and Lu Ann Anderson volunteered this week to help MSD third graders learn water safety skills in the district’s long-standing “Survival Swim” program at the McMinnville Aquatic Center.
Pictured, board member Anderson with Buel students this week. Check out the News-Register story by the fabulous Starla Pointer published today!
Why is There Lunch Debt?
Did you know that MSD offers breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of their family’s ability to pay? This will no longer be an issue now that all schools qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision, which means all students may eat for free at all schools.
We know that kids can’t learn when they’re hungry, but it also leaves us with school lunch debt. In the past, donations have helped cover negative balances, which means school funds can be used for other school activities.
If you are able and willing to help, you can donate here through MySchoolBucks. Find out more here.
