RECESS and WIND CHILL!
A doctor’s note is required if your child is not to go out for recess. We expect all children to have outdoor recess daily. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, including warm outer clothing, hats, and gloves. If the weather is severe, we will have indoor recess. We review the information from www.weather.com. Decisions are made as follows:
11 Degrees + = Full Outdoor Recess
0 – 10 Degrees = Outdoor Recess for 10 minutes
Below 0 Degrees = Indoor Recess
In the event of a Two-Hour Delay, AM/PM Kindergarten will follow a modified schedule - Click HERE for details

ATTENDANCE REMINDER
Parents are reminded that they have three (3) school days to return a signed, written excuse verifying a child’s absence. As per PA State law, excuse blanks cannot be accepted more than three days after a student returns to school. Emails to the school office are appreciated, but do not replace the written excuse. Parents are welcome to call the office (215-529-2509) to verify that the written excuse has been submitted by the student. We would like to partner with you in any way necessary to facilitate compliance with Compulsory School Attendance Laws, including meeting to develop a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP).
- If a written excuse is not submitted within the three day return window, the excuse is permanently considered illegal or “unexcused” by the state.
- If a student accumulates three (3) unexcused absences, parents will receive a written “First Legal Notice” from the school district with a warning that future unexcused absences may result in a citation from District Court.
- Once a student compiles ten (10) total absences (including trip requests, half day absences, etc.), parents will be required to submit a doctor’s excuse for an absence to be considered excused. Parents will be notified in writing if this occurs.
- If your family is planning for your child(ren) to be away for several school days, there is an “Educational Trip Request” form that needs to be filled out and submitted to the school office. Parents can download a form from the T.V. website or call the office for a hard copy. All trip requests must be pre-approved by the building Principal and should be submitted at least 10 days in advance.
- More information and the QCSD Elementary Attendance letter can be found on the TV website. All information written above reflects Pennsylvania State Compulsory Attendance laws.
Every several weeks the teachers at TVES teach the students in their homeroom classes STARS lessons. These lessons are created by the STARS lesson committee. What we teach is determined by evaluating our most recent school behavior data and deciding what STARS behavior is the biggest problem. The most recent lesson addressed Self Control.
Mrs. Lucchesi, TVES School Counselor, planned a lesson that taught students how to use self regulation in order to practice self control. They learned about the Zones of Regulation. The students helped to make a video explaining it and I wanted to share it with you. Enjoy! From the Desk of Principal Bradley:
The TVES Faculty, Staff and I would like to wish you a Happy New Year!
It's hard to believe that we are about to enter 2017! I'm excited about what's to come because I am confident that this will be a year of opportunities for all of us! We plan to capitalize on the opportunity to continue partnering with you for student achievement and success! Expect to hear ways that you can help do so from your child's teachers. Also, another great resource is the QCSD website, where you can find helpful information such as End of Year Competencies right at your fingertips.
As we begin the new year, plans are underway to discuss the future replacement of Tohickon Valley and Milford Middle School. Dr. Harner recently invited us to a Facilities Committee Meeting on January 12th at the District Services Center Board Room to discuss the development of the 126 acres that QCSD owns behind Target and BJs. Click HERE to view the presentation. And be sure to view the video below with our very own Toby the Tiger for more details.
Also, as you prepare for winter and make plans for warmer times, I want to remind you of the PSSA testing window for your planning purposes:
PSSA Testing Window
English Language Arts - April 3 - 7, 2017 (Grades 3-5)
Math - April 24 - 28, 2017 (Grades 3-5)
Science - May 1- 5, 2017 (Grade 4)
Please keep in mind that the district will not approve any family trips for students in grades 3-5 during the assessment periods due to the nature of the tests. Please contact Dr. Bradley directly if you have questions or concerns.
Mid-marking period for this trimester is approximately January 20th (given the extra day off of school on Monday, January 2nd). As you begin making resolutions for the new year, it's the perfect time to resolve to continue your partnership for literacy at home by having students read at least 20 minutes a day. This article explains how your child benefits from those 20 minutes of reading each day and this article explains How Parents Can Nourish a Child's Literacy at Home. Enjoy!
Expect great things in 2017! Thank you for partnering with us and Working Together to Be Our Best!
Your partner in education,
Dr. Orathia Bradley
