Dear Family Member:
This week our class will be reading stories about sounds we hear in our neighborhoods and communities. Your child will experiment with ways to make sounds.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: listen, volume Go outside together and invite your child to listen to the sounds in your neighborhood. Talk about what makes the sound. Describe the volume of the sound.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Word: and Write the word and, then have your child trace it. Have your child search for and circle the word and in a newspaper.
Category Words: sound words Sit outside together and listen for different sounds. Ask your child to identify what is making the sound. Have your child describe the sound.
Phonics: n Search for objects that begin or end with the letter n, such as nails and pan. Write the words on sticky notes and have your child put the notes on each object.
Math
Math Concepts:
- name, recognize, and count numerals 6 to 10 using concrete objects and illustration
Math Vocabulary: six, seven, eight, nine, and ten
HOMEWORK
Please return homework packet and Book Buddy Bag on Thursday of this week due to the field trip on Friday.
DATES and REMINDERS
- Monday - Friday, Oct. 17 - 23 - Lower School Food Drive
- Wednesday, Oct. 19 - Picture Retakes and Class Group Pictures
- Thursday - Saturday, Oct. 20 - 22 - Upper School Play
- Friday, Oct. 21 - Kindergarten Field Trip to Washington Parish Fair
- Students wear their kindergarten t-shirts, long jeans, and school tennis shoes.
Field Trip:
- Children and parents need to arrive at school no later than 8:00 Friday morning.
- Parents will need to go into the office first thing Friday morning to sign the checkout form for their child. This is the school's record that your child will be released to you at the fair.
- Parents will need to wait outside the main building after signing their child out in the office. Students will be in their usual morning meeting room for teachers to take roll.
- Teachers will walk the children out to the front of the main building to release your child to you.
- We will need to leave at 8:10
- Driving directions, parking, and itinerary will be sent home on THURSDAY. Please bring these directions with you on Friday.
- Every child will need to be transported to and from the fair by their chaperone. Chaperones must be at least 21 years of age.
- Parking cost is $5.00 per vehicle.
- A large variety of eating vendors will be available. You are welcome to bring your lunch if you would prefer.
Uniforms:
- Please remember kindergarten dress code includes white velcro tennis shoes for both boys and girls.
- On Fridays, students who have received all stamps or stickers in their travel folder for the week may participate and wear "Goodie Two Shoes" and any color socks they choose. Shoes must be enclosed shoes.
- School Spirit Day is on Fridays, and students may wear uniform bottoms and wolverine wear tops.

Dear Parents,
We will no longer be sending home monthly flyers for the Scholastic Book orders.
