Four skills to teach students In the first five days of school
The first few days of school are a vital time to set the right tone for the rest of the year. Alan November, a former teacher-turned-author and lecturer, says the most important ideas to hammer home will help students learn on their own for the rest of the year. Learn more...
Alexandra Researcher
All staff and students have the ability to access their library accounts and search for library materials using the Alexandria Researcher program. It can only be accessed on campus. Students’ user IDs are their school I.D. numbers, and staff user IDs are their CVUSD employee numbers (the same number you use to log on the substitute system). You can look at what you currently have checked out (this includes all of your teacher materials) and when they are due. You can also see your past history. Click here for some short videos on how to use the program to search for library materials.
Tuesday Tech Tip: Snag.gy
Snag.gy is a simple website that allows you to copy images from your web browser or your computer, and then edit or share them. You don't need an account to use snag.gy or an account to retrieve the image. Images added to snag.gy can easily be cropped, or annotated with text or drawings. Once you've edited your image, it can easily be shared via many social media sites, or via URL. You can quickly take, annotate and share a screenshot without having to download and then re-upload the altered image. If you are working in a web-based environment it feels counter-intuitive to have to download an image or screenshot in order to edit or annotate, and then upload again in order to share the image. Snag.gy eliminates these steps. I used snag.gy to create the image you see above.

Zombie novels
“YA zombie literature has become an incredible teaching tool for kids. After all, zombies provide a powerful antagonistic force for any story set in their world... Although zombies are still exclusively a part of the fictional world, their popularity can be used in creative ways to teach lessons about literature, dystopian societies, power dynamics, disaster readiness and even science.”
