DHS Broadcast
March 8, 2018
A message from Mr. Finkle!
I hope that everyone weathered the storm with minimal impact. I am presently with the class of 2018 in Florida and the kids are having an amazing time! We have had several people come up to us and remark how great our kids are. We knew that; however, it's great to hear it from perfect strangers!
I also wish to congratulate Ms. Davis and the entire cast and crew of Little Shop of Horrors. The production was outstanding! Each year the students amaze me with their talent and professionalism on the stage. Great work all!
As scheduling continues, please be reminded that the last day to submit waivers for academic courses is March 15th. There will be no exceptions to this date.
Please be reminded that the District adopted a school calendar for the 2017-2018 school year that utilizes Spring Recess as make up days in the event of school closure. Due to school closings the district will be open for classes on April 5 and April 6, 2018.
Our marking period will end on March 29, 2018 as there will be no change to the grading period. Everyone enjoy the next couple of weeks as we hope that the winter of 17-18 is behind us!
If you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at dfinkle@delranschoo ls.org or 856-461-6100 x3005.
Athletic News
The Winter 2017-2018 has come to an end. Wrestling just concluded this past weekend. Bryan Miraglia is the 2018 Region 6 wrestling champion! He was also awarded the most outstanding wrestler at that tournament. Bryan Miraglia and Burak Ozbay both qualified for the State Championships in Atlantic City. We are so proud of their efforts all year as well as the rest of the wrestling team.
The Spring sports season started on Friday, March 2nd. The schedule for each Spring team can be located on the Delran High School website under the Athletics tab. Come out and support the teams. Go Bears!!!
Attention to students who want to play a Spring sport! A new form has be added to the ATS requirements. The NJ Department of Education has created an Opioid Fact Sheet that must be reviewed and signed off by all athletes and parents before participation can occur on March 2nd. If you have already filled out all documents from a Fall or Winter sport, you must reenter ATS, review the Opioid Fact Sheet and complete the electronic signatures required. Once electronic signatures are complete, the Opioid Fact Sheet with signatures must be printed out and placed in the box on the front counter of the main office. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Guidotti or Mr. Caplin.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: if your student wants to participate in a sport during the school year, the student must have a valid physical. Once a new physical is complete, do not hold onto it. Turn the physical into Mr. Guidotti or Ms. Jordan so that it can be forwarded to the school physician for approval. Make sure that all information on the physical and health history form are filled out completely and accurately. In addition, a student may not participate in a sport unless the ATS portal has been completed. Directions on how to complete ATS can be found on Mr. Caplin’s teacher page.
February Students of the Month
Dominick was nominated for February "Student of the Month"...here is a little of what Mr. Rood-Ojalvo had to say. "In class an out, Dom has been respectful and helpful. As a member of the football team, and even after the season, he has demonstrated a great work ethic in the weight room. Not only does he recycle, but he encourages those around him to do the same, showing leadership. Dom demonstrated great character when he prevented one student from bullying another, he stepped up when no one else did. All of the actions above and more demonstrate great school spirit and citizenship."
Ethan Chou nominated by Mr. Repece:
Ethan was nominated for February "Student of the Month"...here is a little of what Mr. Repece had to say. "Ethan has been a top-notch student in our Microsoft Office class the entire school year. Currently, we are working with Google Sheets and he takes it upon himself to try to figure out different formulas on his own. He produces exceptional work, is always asking for something else to do when finished an assignment and never shies away from helping out a classmate. He is also a member of Mock Trial and is putting a lot of time into knowing his role, making sure his position has enough information to present in front of the judge and has already taken a freshman member under his wings. Ethan is extremely respectful to all staff and is very deserving of this award."

Alumni Walk
Alumni Walk Update- We are paving the way to celebrate Bear Pride! The Advisors from the Class of 2017 are working on their inlay design. We are very hopeful this year’s Senior Class will buy a brick and cast their permanent legacy on DHS. It looks like we have established a new tradition of not only allowing a platform for individuals, but also each graduating class as a whole, to leave their mark. Please consider purchasing a brick in order to pave the entire walkway. The link for purchasing a brick is below. We would also like to acknowledge the work of Best Cut Lawn-care and Landscaping for installing our bricks. They have donated their time and talents to DHS and provided their work free of charge. Thanks you Phil Velo and Best Cut.
