Clinic Field Trip Reminder- From TracyLynn Wagner
This is a gentle reminder that information about field trips and special events MUST be shared with the clinic (Leslie and myself) early in the planning process. It is imperative that the clinic have enough time to prepare medications and medical alerts to properly prep medications and speak to parents prior to the trip day if needed. This is extra important for overnight trips as parents need to be contacted about daily medications to keep our students and staff safe.
Leslie does have access to the master calendar and for the most part teachers send out an all email. However, I was made aware that before break one of our diabetic students went on a field trip without trained staff Communication and diabetic management was left to the teacher and parent. Per house bill 879 I have provided training to the required staff members (the clinic, clinic back up and Mr. Milak) to cover these students during field trips. This definitely concerns me for the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.
Congrats James!

Good (and not so Good) Instruction for Gifted Learners – Excerpt #2 - From the National Association for Gifted Children
Good teaching for gifted learners… is paced in response to the student's individual needs. Often, highly able students learn more quickly than others their age. As a result, they typically need a more rapid instructional pace than do many of their peers. Educators sometimes call that "acceleration," which makes the pace sound risky. For many gifted learners, however, it's the comfortable pace-like walking "quickly" suits someone with very long legs. It's only "fast" for someone with shorter legs. On the other hand, it's often the case that advanced learners need a slower pace of instruction than many other students their age, so they can achieve a depth or breadth of understanding needed to satisfy a big appetite for knowing.
Instruction for gifted learners is inappropriate when… it is structured around "filling time." Highly able students are often asked to go write a play, complete a puzzle, or do classroom chores because they have completed required tasks that take others longer. It would be difficult to defend such practices as a high-quality use of educational time.

Our School Release Days
These are the dates approved through the RFF process as part of School Governance. WBMS students will NOT attend school on the following dates:
September 1, 2017
October 5, 2017
January 16, 2018
March 8, 2018
Community Balance Days 2017-2018
September 20
October 25
February 21
March 21
The idea is that students will go home right after school to create balance in their lives. Staff members and students alike will take a night off. Club sponsors and coaches and directors may hold meetings and practices and games as needed. We feel students release stress through these extracurricular activities.
Please plan to enjoy yourself and work your assessments around these dates this school year.
