Information about Union Springs High School

December 2, 2022

A note from Mr. Dentel

There is so much happening at Union Springs High School right now. This newsletter contains some of our many highlights and some significant events moving forward.

The connection between the school and the Union Springs Community is crucial to our success. Just today, we received word of a generous donation from our caring community to help support one of our seniors. In addition, we continue to support the communities effort to help families during the holidays through a food drive and gift donations. Finally, as you will read in this newsletter, a local businessman donated his time to help teach our students. Thank you to our wonderful community, which continues to help our students excel.

While writing this, I was visited by one of our 10th graders who had just completed their audition for our high school musical. It reminded me of the power of taking risks and being a part of something. She reminded me of how close she is to the friends she made in doing the play last year. I encourage you to support the students when the show comes out in March.

Next week I will meet with my principal's forum group to get input on how we can support the needs of our student body. Also, I am still looking for a few more parents for the parent group. I would love to meet with this group before the holiday break. More information can be found in this newsletter.

Have a wonderful Holiday!

It was standing room only on November 14th in the High School Library when senior Kailey Kalet signed her National Letter of Intent to play Division 1 basketball at Loyola University Maryland. Kailey is believed to be the first Union Springs basketball player to go Division 1. In the audience were friends, family, teammates, and coaches. We are all proud of Kailey as a student athlete.

Food and Nutrition Class Works With Salt of the Earth

Our Food and Nutrition Class worked with Chef Mike Boise and Class of 2022 graduate Luke Winters from Salt of the Earth on making empanadas. The class will take that knowledge and create a meal for themselves and students from our English Language Learning program. I am proud of our students for building connections and so thankful for the support of this local business.

Union Springs High School Recognized for its work on biliteracy

Thanks to the work of our World Language Teachers and our English Language Learning Teachers, Union Springs is recognized as a School who intends to offer the NYS Seal of biliteracy for the 2022-2023 school year.
