Vice Principal’s Message
WRCS families,
Now that two months have passed, we're settled back into our familiar school routines. There are so many amazing things happening around our building on a daily basis. Don't forget to follow our Facebook page for a glimpse of some of the unique experiences at school.
It was great to meet so many of you at Parent Teacher Interviews. While we have regularly scheduled meetings twice a year, never hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher with any questions or concerns. If your child is like mine, it can sometimes be difficult to get information about their day. Here are 10 questions to ask other than "How was your day?":
1. If you switched places with your teacher tomorrow, what would you teach the class?
2. Did you learn any new words today?
3. What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
4. What questions did you ask at school today?
5. What is the most popular game at recess?
6. What was the best thing that happened today?
7. Did you help anyone today?
8. Did you tell anyone “thank you?”
9. What made you laugh?
10. Did you learn something you didn’t understand?
As we move into November, we're seeing colder temperatures. Our students play outside twice each day, so please remind them to dress for our unpredictable weather. Additionally, please familiarize yourself with our policies concerning buses and school operation during inclement weather. I'm looking forward to winter and all the things it has to bring here at WRCS!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peter Bailey
Vice Principal

What’s Going on for Indigenous Education at WRCS in November?
November 7th: International Inuit Day
International Inuit Day is November 7th and celebrates the culture and identity of Arctic peoples.
November 14th to 20th: Metis Week
Métis Week is an opportunity for the Métis people in Alberta to share their stories, history and culture with people across Alberta. We look forward to sharing Metis culture at WRCS as we invite Elder Angie Crerar into our school to share Metis culture at our assembly November 16th and a jigging group into our gym classes the morning of November 18th.
November 16th: WRCS is celebrating Rock Your Mocs
Rock Your Mocs occurs November 14 -20, and is a positive opportunity to be united and celebrate Indigenous people worldwide by wearing moccasins or the colour turquoise. WRCS is celebrating Rock Your Mocs November 16th, but feel free to rock your mocs all week long!
DROP OFF AND PICK UP
Our school parking lot can be incredibly busy. Please be very careful when driving through, and ensure that you're always letting your children out of the vehicle along the sidewalk. We are working with our School Council as well as the school division to mitigate the congestion, but the fact is we simply have a very large population and the parking lot and drop-off lane gets full fast.
Given our high population of students, parents are asked to please wait outside the building at the beginning and end of each school day. Our hallways are very crowded with students (and staff), and this helps us to mitigate congestion while also ensuring we know who is in our building at any given time during the day. It is a great idea to plan a meeting point with your child where they know to look for you.
Whispering Ridge Community School Fees
Please try to have your school fees paid by November 24th.
In order to ensure we can continue to offer enriching learning experiences and optimal programming for our students, we are instating a small school fee for students in grades 1-8. The school administration team worked with our School Council group to weigh the pros and cons, and to ensure that this decision was supported moving forward. So with the support of our School Council, starting in the 2022-2023 school year, we will kindly ask that each family pay a small fee of $30 per student.
What will this money be used for?
Purchasing additional resources/supplies to enhance learning
Supporting enrichment projects and activities
Additional off-site learning opportunities
Helping with the rising costs of operation and basic supplies
How do I pay this fee?
Our school office accepts cash, cheque, and debit
What if I can’t afford this?
Please reach out to Mrs. Stilwell directly and we can work something out
