October is around the corner!
September 29, 2023
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that we are already talking about October!
September seems to have flown by, and we are quickly approaching the mid trimester mark!
In the coming weeks we will look forward to inviting all of our families into school to meet with teachers and staff to celebrate student growth and achievement. Our goal is to have 100% of our families participate in conferences! We hope to see all of you!
Some highlights we have shared together the last few weeks:
We celebrated our first all school assembly and had a special presentation by 6th graders!
We had MANY students recognized this month as being Panther All Stars!
Our Panthometer is almost full - stay tuned for how these students decide to celebrate!
We kicked off our first fundraiser of the year - and MANY students are wearing their DAWGZ necklaces to show off their efforts!
Students and staff had a FANTASTIC lunch of Sambusa from a food truck at lunch!
We are always looking for opportunities to invite parents and family members into our school community as volunteers - and we already have quite a few who are coming in to help in classes! If you are interested, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher, or contact the office to get a form. Our next “Parent Meet & Greet Night” with PTO will be held on Tuesday, October 17th @ 5:30-6:30.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, or to make a connection. I always enjoy connecting with our Park Avenue families.

"Isuken Cooperative Food Truck to Serve Lunch with Park Avenue School on Friday, September 29.
The menu will highlight Somali sambusas and Maine Marinara.
This Friday, lunch will look a little different at Park Avenue Elementary as the school welcomes a local food truck to serve their Somali recipes. The Auburn School District is a partner in the Maine Marinara Collaborative— a project that sources ingredients from local farms and processes them into marinara sauce for schools. Farm partners providing ingredients for the sauce include New Roots Farm in Lewiston, Liberation Farms in Wales, and the Isuken Cooperative Farm in Auburn. In addition to operating a farm that has contributed hundreds of pounds of zucchini to the Maine Marinara Collaborative, the Isuken Cooperative also has the nation’s first Somali Bantu farm-to-table cooperatively-run food truck. Their specialty is sambusa; a triangular shaped pastry filled with meat, vegetables, and spices perfect for dipping in Maine Marinara! Cooperative members will work with Park Ave kitchen staff on Wednesday to prepare enough sambusas to feed the school community and meet all the nutritional requirements of a wholesome school lunch. Keep an eye out for the Isuken Cooperative Food Truck at school on Friday!
Around 300 students and staff enjoyed a delicious lunch of Sambusa, and Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara Sauce! There were MANY happy and FULL bellies today!
