RMS Weekly Event Calendar
February 11 - February 15
What's going on at RMS?
Education gives children two things:
1. A belief in themselves - Each day students enter our school with different skills, talents, and levels of learning. A school should be a place that helps students realize their potential and achieve success...not only academically...but in all areas. Success doesn't look or mean the same for each student. However, what it should mean for every student is that through the educational process, students learn a sense of self worth and a belief in their capabilities. Education should empower a student to maximize their potential as well as their self-confidence. Students should enter classrooms that are challenging, but with the support and encouragement from the teacher, students should be able to reach their goals. It has been said that schools are not a place to educate those that are already "smart", but should be a place where all students are valued and taught to believe in their abilities. All students should have the opportunity to experience levels of success which they can take with them when they leave us.
2. Choices - I'm sure all of you have heard that "education is power". The reason that education is powerful is because though education, individuals have choices over their future. The more education/skills....the more choices available. Without education, people are limited. As we educate our students academically, emotionally, and socially, we instill in them the characteristics of future success and equip them with essential skills which bring unlimited choices. The possibilities are endless for those that are educated and after all, don't all of us want choices in our lives???
Think about your own classrooms. Do they live up to the two things education provides for students? Are your classrooms providing a venue for students to develop self-confidence and self-worth? Do your students believe you, as their teacher, believe in them and their capabilities? Are your classrooms providing the level of education for our students that will teach them the skills that will allow them to have choices in their future?
These are all tough questions, but ones we should be asking ourselves on a daily basis. The greatest thing we can ever possibly do for our students is to educate them for a positive future. Our students need us and they need to feel loved, valued, appreciated, and respected for who they are and the talents they bring. I encourage you to find the positive in each student you teach and tell them! Think about what kind of impact you could have each day!
