Friday, February 24 - Sunday February 26, 2017. Region I Conference. iCON17: Engineer like a Girl
Join us in St. Louis! Support the conversation of women in engineering, and discuss the obstacles that women face in the workplace. Recognizing unconscious biases and managing culture change from all levels is a difficult task, but iCON17 strives to give participants the tools to be successful, to provide answers to the hard questions, and to educate the work force about the challenges minorities face in engineering. We will provide the conference attendees with the ability to combat biases and stereotypes, and the confidence to say “I can engineer like a girl”.
Registration for iCON17 ends 1/26/2017 at http://stl.swe.org/icon17.html
Email president@swe-nebraska.org for carpool opportunities to the Region I conference in February.
SWE Award Selection at the Metro Science and Engineering Fair (MSEF)
The MSEF attracts over 200 junior and high school youth to present science projects http://www.msefomaha.com. SWE continues to recognize junior and seniors by sponsoring the Society of Women Engineers Award to young women who have STEM related projects.
We are looking for volunteers to judge the day of the event. Judges need to arrive at the Zoo by 7:30AM (free admission). Judging will be from 8 – 11:30AM. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided to all volunteers. You may stay for the awards ceremony at 1PM, if you would like.
If you are able to give a few hours of your time on that Saturday morning, you will be rewarded with seeing the work of some amazing young people: our future engineers. There will be otherSWE judges with you, who have done this in the past, to judge with you and explain the judging process to you. Contact our Outreach Chair, Shannon DeVivo at Outreach@swe-nebraska.orgwith any questions, or if you are able to help.

The Professional Development Chair encourages and assists Section members to establish goals for and to attain high levels of educational and professional achievement. She is responsible for planning and/or coordinating professional development, networking, and/or community service events.
Responsibilities include:
· Maintains an updated Calendar of Activities for the Section
· Organizes meeting hosts and locations of activities (i.e., speaker coordination, food, location, marketing, sign-in roster, etc.), typically with support from other Board members

Graduate Member Chair
The GMC is a new role being developed at the Section level, and can be defined as our Section Members' needs change. This person will help to better connect members who have pursued graduate degrees and are possibly working in a more research-focused environment as well as members who are considering returning to school to pursue a graduate degree.
Here are some possible responsibilities to consider:
· Work with membership chair to engage and recruit more MBA, MEng, and/or research-oriented members
· Work to incorporate more MBA, MEng, and/or research-focused events and/or speakers
· Lead efforts to inform members of graduate school opportunities (funding through industry, benefits of pursuing a graduate degree, MBA vs MS/PHD) in Eastern Nebraska
· Work with local collegiate sections to connect graduate student members to relevant professionals within our Section
· Assist local collegiate sections (UNL & UNO) in establishing graduate communities (possibly hold joint events)
These are just a few ideas to us started, as this position is not well defined and it is up to our Section as to how we would like to utilize a GMC.

· Author/create Section quarterly newsletter
· Author regional and national articles
· Provide Webmanager newsletter to post to section website
