Black History Month
The Library will have our Black History Month display all month long. Along with displaying nonfiction books on important African Americans, we will also focus on the talented African American authors who have contributed to the ever-increasing genre of young adult fiction, as well as fiction with African American main characters. In recent years, there has been a much needed push for ethnic diversity in young adult fiction. In response, there have been growing numbers of books that portray African American characters and
their experiences in realistic and urban fiction, but also increasingly in other genres, such as fantasy and supernatural, as well.
A great list of Young Adult books to read for Black History Month
(21 of these books are currently in your ECHS Library, and 23 of them are on purchasing lists to be ordered)
Happy Anti-Valentine's Day!
Due to an overwhelming request from students, the Library is celebrating Anti-Valentine's Day this year! Or, if you prefer, Happy Single Awareness Day :) We have banners up that says "Love Stinks" and signs that express sentiments such as, "Tacos are my Valentine" and "Why fall in love, when you can fall asleep?". You can check out a book from our display, which will include tragic endings, doomed relationships, and maybe even some laughs, but definitely NOT happy romances!
For those of you that prefer a more romantic Valentine's Day, there is a literary couple-matching quiz below to enjoy. How many can you match? On the week of Valentine’s Day, we’ll be playing great romantic movie moments on the flat screen (and maybe some anti-valentine's movie moments thrown in). You don't have to fall in love with anyone to fall in love with your Library!
