News from the Lancaster County School District, May 2023

Big picture

Lancaster County Community,

It's hard to believe the 2022-2023 school year is drawing to a close. I bet if you asked the parents of a senior graduating high school this year, they would tell you it feels like just yesterday when they dropped their child off at kindergarten. Isn't it interesting how the days seem long, but the years fly by?

As we celebrate our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week, please know that we celebrate you as well. It's the strength of our partnership that sets the tone for a successful school year.

In addition to Teacher Appreciation Week we are celebrating the following groups this month: School Principals' Day (May 1), School Lunch Hero Day (May 5), School Nurse Day (May 10), Speech Pathologist Day (May 18).

Thank you for all you do. We couldn't do it without you!

LCSD employs a total of 36 nurses across the schools in our district. These nurses not only take care of our students but let's be honest, they look after staff as well. We are grateful for them and they are most deserving of this spotlight.

Better Hearing and Speech Month

LCSD supports Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM). Each May, this annual event provides an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and hearing health.

We have 19 Speech therapists/pathologists working in our school district. Our therapists and pathologists provide appropriate speech-language services in all levels across the district. Starting with our early childhood and Pre-K, elementary, middle, and high schools with no school level underserved. They get the pleasure of working with students exhibiting the full range of communication disorders, including those involving language, articulation (speech sound disorders), fluency, voice/resonance, and swallowing, and whom may have other disabilities such as Developmental Delay, Learning Disorders, Other Health Impairment, Autism, Intellectually Disabled.

Our therapists make a difference in the lives of our students daily!
