Fall Newsletter
Deaf Awareness Month
This deaf/hard of hearing class made posters for a documentary about a deaf family airing during Deaf Awareness Month. Students recognize Deaf Awareness Month each September and often involve their peers at Orefield Middle School.
Student Forum
Student Forum gathered at Parkland High School to talk with advisors from Career Link and explore career options with peers. Their activities for the day included lectures, mock interviews and other helpful tools to aid in their career searches!
Fall Fun Classtime
Remember those baking soda volcanoes? Mrs. Lorkowski's class practices a similar science experiment using pumpkins, baking soda and vinegar! Students were excited to brew up some fun during Halloween week.
Fall Dance
Students came to our central office for the fall dance! Some were in costume; others were not, but all came ready to dance and have fun with fellow students! Dances and other events like this help to encourage socialization, communication skills, and travel within their community.
Deaf/HOH Student Steps Onstage
Anastasia M., a 6th grader in our deaf/hard of hearing program, is seen here SHINING onstage in Orefield Middle School's production of "Much Ado About Will." Great job, Anastasia!
CLIU Volunteers at Miracle League Halloween
Our CLIU volunteers are bundled up for the Miracle League trick-or-treat table! Volunteers included CLIU Social Workers Angelique Baran, Amy Snyder-Dietz, Maia Geiger and Special Education teacher Tracey Miller. Thank you for all you do!
Legislative Visit at Truman Elem
Thank you to the legislators who attended our classroom visits within Harry S. Truman Elementary School! Legislators in attendance included Rep. Zachary Mako, Vicki Wilken (Legislative Council for Pat Browne), and Brittney Waylen (Legislative Aide for Ryan McKenzie.) Thank you for being partners in education!
Code Jam 2018
Code Jam gives kids who like to code a chance to compete for first place! Seen here is our first place team from Emmaus High School. Contestants have two hours to solve a series of problems that have been created by computer science professors. Good job and congratulations!
Special Soles 5k
It was a brisk, breezy morning to put it lightly, but well worth it for these runners! Proceeds from the Special Soles 5K will go towards purchasing adaptive bikes for special needs kids in our classrooms. Congratulations to all who placed and thank you to our supporters!
Alex Shines on the Field
Alex, a deaf/hard of hearing student, is seen here with CLIU interpreter Susan Arndt on the football field! Susan works with Alex to interpret so that he can communicate effectively with the team and coach. Alex's story was featured in The Morning Call and on the PAIU website!
