SOL Testing Reminders
For the next several weeks, we all pull together to ensure our students have the tools and resources they need to succeed in their SOL tests. We will endeavor to maintain the SOL bell schedule as posted below. If the testing runs exceptionally long, we may have to forego first block, but will maintain the rest of the bell schedule as published.
A PA announcement will be made to begin and end the SOL testing period. Please do not release any students until you hear this PA announcement. For the two weeks of the main SOL testing, we will not have the pledge and moment of silence via the PA system. Teachers are asked to carry through with this tradition at an opportune time during second block.

Details of the forms:
Students will need to be logged in to their VBCPS accounts to complete the form. Teachers will not have editing capabilities on the original responses spreadsheet. The response spreadsheet is a whole school document that you will only be able to view. You will be able to easily check to see which students have submitted the form. You won’t need to make a copy of the spreadsheet because all the info will auto populate and Jason can set it to sort by the teacher column.
I Make a Difference
Marieo Billiups passed the award on to Maria Fritts. He wrote, "I am honored to present this award to Mrs. Maria Fritts who does so much for the children in her department. She teaches the kids how to respect others, practices using proper manners, takes the time to bring out the positive in these children when the days aren't always the brightest. Mrs. Fritts shows the students how to make our day better by helping to serve others in the Eagles Morning Brew. She shows extreme patience throughout the day. She is an all-around great person and a great friend. What you do for the children does not go unnoticed and you deserve this award. Thank you for all you do."
Maria Fritts passes the award on to Mark Doyle. She writes, "Mr. Doyle is the most deserving recipient of the I Make a Difference award. Mr. Doyle has demonstrated through his attitude, kindness and willingness to avail himself to all his students which may include extra academic help, college referral letters, job reference letters, or reviewing scholarship applications with overwhelmed students who seek Mr Doyle out for his expertise and encouraging words. I have also had the privilege to observe Mr. Doyle one on one with our students working at the Eagles Morning Brew. His patience and kindness shown toward our Eagle Morning Brew students who are learning job and customer service skills find him encouraging, and look forward to interacting with him weekly. Thank you, Mr. Doyle, for making a difference at Landstown High School, as a mentor to our students and an example to be emulated by all."
Announcements & Reminders
Passes from ASB: Please do not write passes for students to access the vending machines during ASB. Students should remain in the classroom for all classes--including ASB--unless there is an emergency. This is especially important during these final few weeks of school as we will be testing every day through June 15.
NBC Learn Non-Renewal: As staff continuously analyzes the cost and benefits of products and services, the Department of Teaching and Learning has made the decision for non-renewal of the contract with NBC Learn. This conclusion was reached due to a review of reports that consistently demonstrated low and infrequent use of this service, as well as the exponentially increasing access to free open educational resources.
Senior Final Assessments
EARLY FINAL ASSESSMENTS FOR SENIORS ONLY WILL BE GIVEN ON
MONDAY, JUNE 4 DURING BLOCKS 1B AND 2B CLASS TIME
TUESDAY, JUNE 5 DURING BLOCKS 1A AND 2A CLASS TIME
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6 DURING BLOCKS 3B AND 4B CLASS TIME
AND THURSDAY, JUNE 7 DURING BLOCKS 3A AND 4A CLASS TIME
Guidelines:*
- Seniors in “mixed” classes who are required to take a final assessment will report directly to the SCHOLA at the beginning of the block. These students will take their assessment in the Schola. Teachers must provide copies of their final assessment to Mrs. Muench by Tuesday, May 29. Please make sure you give Mrs. Muench everything your students will need to complete the final assessment (scantrons, calculators, passwords, etc.).
- Teachers must also submit the form from the end-of-year packet listing senior students who will be reporting to the Schola on June 4 through 7. This form must be given to Mrs. Muench by Tuesday, May 29.
- Seniors who are in “pure” (senior only) courses such as English 12 and Government will complete their final assessment during the appropriate block in the classroom with the teacher.
- Once the senior has completed the final assessment for a particular class, they are excused from that class (i.e. after Monday, June 4, seniors will not report to Block 1B and 2B, etc.).
- Grades for seniors should be entered by 3 p.m. on the day following the assessment. All senior grades must be entered by 8 a.m. on Monday, June 11.
- SENIOR FAILURE NOTICES should be completed for each of your classes. You can access the failure notice using the Google Form link below.
*These guidelines are also included in the end-of-year packet.
Closing Out the School Year
June 18 Staff/Flex Work Day
All teachers and teacher assistants may work a flex schedule for the staff day June 18. You may begin working the extra time May 15 and keep a log of the time worked on your WISE timesheet. Please be sure to record this time in the "additional hours worked" column and total your time at the end of the pay period in order to help Terri as she must account for everybody's time.
Teacher assistants, ISS coordinators and library assistants may not work more than 40 hours in any one week. The time sheets will provide documentation to support the hours reported in WISE. The flex day applies only to the following group of employees:
- All teachers whose schedule ends June 18.
- Teacher assistants, ISS coordinators, and library media assistants.
- Security assistants are not eligible because of security needs of the building.
Eligible employees who do not choose to make use of the flex day and do not wish to report June 18 may choose to take personal reasons leave with approval of the building principal. All staff members who participate in graduation will be granted 3 hours of time towards this work day.

Kudos
Kudos to our Biology PLC for their targeted remediation for their students who scored below a set percentage on their post-assessment. They are sharing the tutoring responsibilities and targeting student weaknesses from the diagnostic tool. True collaboration!
Congratulations to our "baby" Brickell Scholars--Carlie Daniel and Gabrielle Ferran.
Congratulations to sophomore Christian Basnight who beat Cox senior Jonathan Mo 6-3 6-2 to become the Region 6A boys tennis singles champion.
