Dear Sunflower Families,

This Thursday marks the start of Ramadan. Ramadan will end on April 22nd with the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration. Sunflower would like to wish a happy Ramadan or Ramadan Mubarak to all who celebrate.

I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break and found time to relax and rejuvenate! It is hard to believe we are starting the 4th quarter of the 2022-2023 school year. Spring is always a busy time of year with state assessments, kindergarten orientation, 5th grade middle school transition events and more! Please mark your calendars for the important dates listed at the end of this communication.

State Assessments:

State assessments start the first week in April, please see the dates below. We are also asking for some snack donations as we like to provide "brain food" on test days. Please see the Sign Up Genius link below if you are willing to donate. We are asking donations be sent in by April 1st.

Kindergarten Orientation:

Please see the information regarding our upcoming kindergarten orientation events and spread the word. This year the district is requiring families enroll and provide all documents prior to being able to attend kindergarten orientation. Please contact the school to book your orientation slot once all of those items have been completed.

Middle School Transition:

Middle school counselors will be at Sunflower next Tuesday, March 28th at 1:30 to visit with 5th graders about their transition to middle school.

As always it is an honor to serve as the Principal of Sunflower Elementary.

March Parent Shout Outs for Sunflower Staff

Know a Sunflower staff member that deserves a shout out?! Fill out the google form below! We use these shout outs as nominations for our staff member of the month recognition.

March Staff Shout Outs

No Outside Food or Drinks

Parents, just a friendly reminder that students can only bring in water to have during the day. They can pack a juice box or Gatorade for lunch time, but should only have water in their water bottles. Please refrain from sending your students with hot chocolates, coffees or fountain drinks and make sure that any outside breakfast/lunch items are finished before entering the building. Students can either eat a school lunch or a lunch from home. Food from a restaurant can not be in packaging from the restaurant.

We have multiple openings at this time. We have posted for three Paraprofessionals and one for our Lead Lunchroom Monitor. This position works Monday-Friday from 10:45-1:15. You can apply online by clicking the linked job titles or contact Melissa Blevins at melissa.blevins@usd497.org.

Donuts With the Dogs!

Watch Dogs will be hosting a Donuts with the Dogs event on Friday, March 24 from 8-8:30 at school. Take a photo for an awareness wall and get feedback and talk about new opportunities.

Sunflower Marathon Club

Marathon Club will start back up TODAY, Wednesday March 22nd. As a reminder, we run on Wednesdays after school from 2:20pm-3pm and on Monday mornings from 8am-8:25am. If you were a member of Marathon Club and ran in the fall, you are good to go! If you would like to become a member of Marathon Club, please fill out the consent form (link below) before coming on your first day.

Sunflower Fun Run

The 2023 Sunflower Fun Run/Walk will take place at 9 am on Saturday, April 29, at Sunflower Elementary. Whether you're a walker, runner, skipper, or even jumper, all are welcome to participate!
