Giddy Up

Thank you for your service Officer Gammon!
Did you know we have a hero at Brookwood Elementary? Brookwood Elementary's School Resource Officer Wiley Gammon is also a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He was deployed recently to the Middle East where he served on medical transports. During his deployment, students and staff wrote letters of thanks and appreciation to Officer Gammon and the other soldiers of his squadron. We thank Officer Gammon for his service to our country and the sacrifices he, his wife, and daughters, Brookwood Elementary students Amelia and Emmy Anne, made during his deployment. We missed Officer Gammon and are excited to have him return to Brookwood Elementary next week.
In appreciation of the letters Brookwood Elementary staff and students sent and the care we took of his daughters while he was away, Officer Gammon made a special request of the U.S. Air Force. Officer Gammon requested a flag to be flown in honor of Brookwood Elementary School on one of their missions. The flag pictured below flew on a C-17A on September 22, 2021 as it transported American service members over Kuwait and Qatar to receive medical care.
Earlier this week, Officer Gammon and the GCPS Police Chief Tony Lockard presented the flag and certificate to Principal Karen Lillard. Mrs. Lillard, along with Officer Gammon's daughters, presented the flag and certificate to the school on Friday's morning announcements. The flag and certificate are now on display in the Brookwood Elementary School front office.
