Tuesday, Nov. 2 - Digital/Virtual Learning Day (Learning from home)

Principal's Corner

Ramsey Families,

This coming Tuesday, November 2, all SPPS schools will have a digital learning day. Tuesday, November 2, is Election Day and a Digital Learning Day for all SPPS students Prek-12.

The purpose of this digital learning day is to address health and wellness concerns due to the community use of our school buildings on election day and exposure to COVID. The Board of Education adjusted the SPPS schedule to make Election Day a digital learning day. This means all students will learn from home on Election Day. Online Learning Lessons will be provided by teachers. This serves as a contact day with students.

All Ramsey teachers will offer a morning check in with their Foundations students and an AM and a PM Synchronous session for students to attend for online learning support. Teachers will not be instructing but available to support student questions regarding their online work. Teachers will post their Synchronous schedule on their Schoology course pages along with coursework for students to complete digitally while working remotely. As students work on their coursework and need support, they should note when their teacher will be available in a google meeting. Teachers will post their Synchronous schedule on their Schoology course pages along with coursework for students to complete digitally while working remotely.

In summary: Ramsey Teachers will provide:

  • 8:45 -9:15 - Foundations Check-in
  • AM office hour (45 minutes)

  • PM office hour (45 minutes)

Google Meet codes to the Check-ins and Schedules for Office Hours are below. Foundations teachers will also go over additional details during the Foundations check-in.

Sincerely,

Teresa Vibar

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Updates

Volunteers NEEDED

We have a number of opportunities to volunteer at Ramsey and we could use your help!

One-Time Commitment:

1) Library Organization - Next Thursday, November 4th

  • Help our new librarian, Mr. Sheridan, as he works to update the library’s resources to make them more relevant to more students. If you haven't met Mr. Sheridan yet - his love of books and getting kids reading is infectious and this is guaranteed to be fun.
  • Tasks include pulling books, cross-checking to see if they are still being used, and removing books that are no longer useful to make room for new books! There could also be opportunities for shelving, straightening, applying book jackets, and “random crafting”.
  • REQUIREMENTS: must verify COVID vaccination status or negative test result, must wear mask in school
  • 2-hour shifts available from 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM (volunteers especially needed from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM)

Weekly Commitment:

1) Lunchroom Volunteer: Needed daily from 11:58 am - 1:16 pm

Assist Principal Vibar in making sure that waste and silverware are properly sorted and just be a positive presence in the lunchroom and gymnasium over the lunch hour. Over the course of the three lunch periods - you will get to see every student and the time flies by in this high energy environment!

2) Office Volunteer: Needed daily from approx 8:30 - 10:30 am

Mornings are busy in the main office. Lots of incoming phone calls, students needing passes and people stopping by. Our Lead Clerk, Sandy, really appreciates having an extra set of hands to get the school day going. No previous office experience necessary - Sandy will teach you everything you need to know!

If you're interested in one of these weekly positions, just click here to start the sign-up process. In order to volunteer this year, you will need to:

1) pass a background check (our PTO will cover the cost of this) and

2) verify that you are vaccinated or commit to weekly COVID testing. This is a district mandate that went into effect earlier this school year. Masks are required at all times when in the building.

Thanks for considering and you can always email RamseyVolunteers@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Thank You!

Want to make your donation go a little further? Ask your employer if they will match your donation. Ramsey PTO is a 501c3 Non-Profit and all donations are tax deductible. Tech Time

Hotspots & Internet Access

If you have an SPPS Hotspot at home that was checked out prior to September 2021, please send it to school with your student to be checked out again. Either the librarian or I can do it quickly and easily. On November 10th, Hotspots that have not been checked out again will be turned off. We want to support your Internet access at home, but we also want to be sure the Hotspots are still needed. By having everyone who still needs their Hotspot check it out again, we will ensure continued access for those who need it. If you do not have Internet access at home, please review the information at https://bit.ly/homeWiFi. Then you can let me know if a Hotspot or Comcast Internet Essentials is a better choice for your family.

Feel free to contact me with questions: email cara.hagen@spps.org or text (612) 568-2358‬.

Thank you,

Cara Hagen

6th Grade - MN Studies

In Minnesota Studies, students are finishing the unit on recent Immigration to Minnesota. Students are finishing their iMovies about their family's migration/immigration story or about another immigrant group. The iMovies will be due on Friday, November 5 and will be part of their Quarter 1 grades. Please ask your child about their iMovies.

6th Grade - Math

Students in Math 6 have finished up their second unit of the year, converting between different fractions and decimals. Our next unit will focus on real life applications of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with fractions and decimals. We will be creating a Math 6 Cookbook and doing grocery shopping throughout this unit. Please talk with your scholar about a favorite family recipe that you like to use a lot. We'll be looking for that recipe in the next coming weeks.
