Ms. Porter's Monthly Message
Dear Nob Hill Elementary Families,
It seems as we continue through this year that time seems to be going by more quickly each month. The school is filled with the excitement of students learning, laughter all around campus, and Spirit Friday fun! I know this time of year is a busy one and we appreciate how you continue to make your child’s education a top priority.
Speaking of busy, fun times, our PTA is planning for our Annual Color Run on March 15th! This year, we are looking to raise $15,000 to continue to purchase Promethean Boards for each of our classrooms. Information has been sent home from the classroom teacher. Please take the time to register your child on the Boosterthon website. The window for fundraising will open on March 6th. Every little bit will help make this event a huge success! In addition to prizes the students can earn that are provided by Boosterthon, the school will be coming up with events for students to participate in when they have reached different fundraising tiers. Stay tuned for more information on this.
On March 1st, the district Customer Survey will open and provide you with the opportunity to provide feedback on different aspects of the school. Please take a few minutes to fill this out. The results are used to make adjustments and improvements to our school environment. You can find the QR code or the URL further in the newsletter.
During the month of February, as a school we supported the American Heart Association by participating in the Kid’s Heart Challenge. This organization takes care of children that have serious and often life threatening heart conditions. This was a great opportunity to teach students about being a responsible and caring citizen by helping those in need. Our students and families rose to the occasion! We set our fundraising goal at $2500 and ended up raising over $7200! Those students that raised $100 or more had a great time being able to silly string Mr. Rowe, Mrs. Cruz, and me. Thank you for your support of this amazing organization and showing how important it is to give back.
Once again, we stress the importance of attendance and punctuality. Children lose a lot of learning time when they are absent and consistently tardy. This interrupts the learning and the learning environment of all students. Please make sure that your child is here daily no later than 7:55 a.m. each day. This ensures they are entering the class in a timely manner and are able to settle into the routine without being rushed or stressed. It also allows the teacher to start their day without the interruption of late students coming into the classroom.
Just a few reminders to wind down our March Newsletter:
· Student should be completing 45 minutes and two lessons on i-Ready weekly.
· If you have not had the second conference with your child’s teacher, this is your reminder to get one scheduled.
· Even though we are nearing the end of the third quarter, there are a lot of opportunities for you to get involved in your child’s education. We encourage you to attend our monthly Parent Teacher Association meetings to learn how you can help.
I hope that everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable Spring Break. Remember to check the calendar for those dates as we have an Early Release Day and Teacher Planning Days leading up to the break. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Dear Nob Hill Families,
It has been a busy few week at Nob Hill! We have started several academic tutoring camps to assist students in reading and math, as well as a tutoring camp for our English language learners. These camps are a wonderful opportunity to support our students in their areas of need.
We are kicking off the Color Run on March 6th! PTA is excited to use the funds raised from this event to purchase Promethean boards for our classrooms. We are so close to having a Promethean board in every kindergarten through 5th grade class. Color Run information packets will be going home with the students very soon!
We strive to maintain a safe and positive school environment where our students and staff enjoy school and treat others with respect. Our school wide expectations are: *Be Responsible. *Be Respectful. *Be Safe. Please take some time to review these expectations with your child.

In this months unit, students are reading personal narratives from young people who live in different types of places across the United States, and selections from popular novels. Students will discuss how each community has its own unique and defining characteristics and that history, culture, and geographical location impact communities and how they grow and change.

Students will recognize that scientists question, discuss, and check each other's evidence and explanations.
