Yesterday’s Texas school tragedy
A message from the Superintendent
May 25, 2022
Dear families and staff,
Yesterday’s tragic school shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas has shocked and saddened us all deeply at Mounds View Public Schools. Like you, we are all struggling to understand how this tragedy could happen.
Because of the magnitude of this event and the media coverage that will ensue, I want to share with you some information endorsed by the National Center for School Mental Health. I encourage you to review this resource for helping your children cope with news such as this.
We know that children and teens will process this news in different ways. Support staff are available at each of our school buildings to assist students who may need some extra support. We strongly encourage any student to seek these resources at any time.
Please be assured that nothing is more important than providing the safest school environment possible. Security features in all of our buildings have been installed and upgraded in recent years, and we’re making certain that all security procedures we’ve established are being followed. We also maintain very strong partnerships with our local law enforcement agencies who share our dedication to protecting our school communities.
On a day like today, students may be hurting as they process a variety of recent tragedies both near and far. Please join our schools in offering our students the support they need. Thank you for all of your support for our students and staff members in our schools.
Sincerely,
Chris Lennox
Superintendent
