Family Guide to State Tests 2021-2022
The annual New York State English Language Arts (ELA- March 29 & 30)and Mathematics tests (April 26 & 27) for students in grades 3-8 will be administered to all students later this spring. These tests are required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and are designed to provide important information about whether students are prepared to progress through school and graduate with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning skills they need for long-term success in school, college, careers, and life.
These tests are just one of several measures our schools use to assess student progress: grades, report cards, writing samples, projects, assignments, and other performance-based student work are equally important.
For access to the family guide for this years state tests, please follow the link below.
https://www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/testing/student-participation-guide
NYS Education regulation:
Please note that a new New York State Education Regulation clearly stipulates that
all students are now prohibited from bringing cell phones and certain other electronic devices into a classroom where state testing is being administered. If it is determined that the student had a prohibited device in his or her possession during the test administration, the student’s test must be invalidated.
Test Taking Tips
- Do not stress the test
- Get a good night's rest
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Be positive & confident in your ability
- Do not compare yourself to others, you got this!
- Take a rest or short break if you need it. Remember deep breathes help you to relax!
School Survey Extension: New Due Date April 15th
For the first time this year, families can access the survey by logging into their NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). You can also take the survey by going to www.nycschoolsurvey.org. Parents/Guardians need only their child’s nine-digit Student Identification (OSIS) Number to complete the survey. Parents will enter a lowercase “f” and their child’s nine-digit OSIS number as the survey code (e.g., f123456789) to complete their unique survey. Families can find their student’s ID number on a report card, a student ID card, or in their NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). Surveys are completely confidential. Our goal is to have 100% student and parent survey participation. Any questions you can contact our Parent Coordinator Linda Taccetta at 718-601-6343, EXT 1071

Ramadan begins April 2
Traditions of Ramadan
Muslims take part in the month-long dawn-to-sunset fast that is the hallmark of Ramadan. The belief is fasting cleanses the body, and the practice reminds of the suffering of the less fortunate.
Eating and drinking (including water) is prohibited from dawn to sunset, and the day’s abstinence is offset by a pre-dawn meal called sehri and a nightly meal known as iftar. For iftar, many traditionally break the fast by first eating dates. Foods traditionally served at iftar vary; one such dish is the Kurdish Hot-and-Spicy Red-Lentil Soup. Food is often shared with a less fortunate family during Ramadan.
At the end of the 29- or 30-day fast is Eid al-Fitr (Festival of Breaking the Fast), when there is much feasting and celebration!

8th Grade Senior Update #2
Graduation Update
We are planning two in–person, outdoor ceremonies to be held in our schoolyard, for students and two guests/family members per graduate/family only. The ceremonies will take place at 9:00AM and 12:00PM on Wednesday, June 22, with Thursday, June 23 and Friday, June 24 set aside as rain dates, if needed. As we implemented last year, a Google form will be shared as we get closer to the event to enable families to register for either ceremony. To be clear, families will be able to choose either the morning or afternoon ceremony, on a first come-first serve basis.
Under current DOE guidance, masks are no longer required nor is proof of vaccination necessary. Should anything change is this regard, you will be notified. Additional details regarding the ceremonies are forthcoming
Senior Dues
The deadline to pay senior dues has been extended through the end of March. The cost of senior dues covers setup and materials that make our graduation ceremony beautiful and special. This includes your child’s graduation gown, diploma and diploma case, awards and certificates, graduation tickets (2 per family), and the graduate lawn/window signs. Senior dues also include the two t-shirts, various special assemblies, the yearbook, and many other incidental but essential materials that make your child’s senior year memorable. Payment of senior dues can be made via our website at https://www.is75.org/ under the School Store/Online Payments tab. If you have any questions concerning the dues or activities planned, please reach out to our senior events coordinators, Ms. LaRocca or Ms. Boshnack, via PupilPath, or feel free to contact us at 718-701-6343.
Senior Trip
As of this writing, our senior trip to Six Flags in Jackson, NJ on June 3 is a go! Coach buses have been secured, and all students who attend must wear their senior tee (which they will receive shortly beforehand). Students will receive transportation to and from Six Flags, an admission ticket and meal voucher. Please visit our website to complete the parent/guardian consent form and remit payment. Specifics are outlined in the attached letter. Click here to go to the form.
Senior Awards
To recognize our future graduates who have earned special distinction over the course of their three years at Paulo, we will be also be hosting a special senior awards ceremony. Unless DOE guidance on visitor restrictions/vaccination status changes, the senior awards ceremony will be held during the school day in our auditorium with students only, and will be live-streamed for families. The date for this special event is still to be determined and will be communicated at a later time.
Arista (Wednesday, May 18)
Unless DOE guidance on visitor restrictions changes, the grade eight Arista ceremony will be held in our auditorium for students only, and will be live-streamed for families. Details on this event, including notification of eligible candidates will be shared in due time via our Arista coordinator, Ms. Jeannine Valenti. Keep in mind, for the 2021-22 school year, Arista eligibility requires the following:
1. Scholarship – Academic average of at least 91.00% in each marking period with no grade, in any subject, below 80 or “S”. Please note that a single course grade of 79 or lower precludes a student from Arista.
2. Citizenship – No citizenship grade below “S” (Satisfactory) in any marking period.
3. Service – The attainment of at least 25 service credits per school year.
Of note, for your convenience, all Class of 2022 updates are also posted on our school website under the Parents tab, under the Class of 2022 Updates dropdown.
We look forward to a memorable year for our graduating class of 2022!
