Meet the Team!

Over the summer the Gifted & Talented department at ESC Region 12 celebrated the retirement of Denny & Debbie. They have served Region 12 educators tirelessly over the past few years, and the new team looks to continue their passion for gifted education! The new GT team consists of four very unique individuals who are excited to meet your needs.

Andi McNair (@mcnairan3) - Andi has successfully implemented and served gifted students with the Genius Hour model, allowing them to pursue passions and develop their gifts in a unique and engaging format. Andi is passionate about helping educators design meaningful learning experiences that will engage and empower today's learner.

Joshua Essary (@TheArchiTechEd) - Musical creativity is only the starting pointing for Josh's gifts. As a former band director, Josh understands the importance of creative outlets for students as part of the learning process. He will work to help teachers understand how to use student's creative gifts to enhance and engage the learning process.

Kari Espin (@KariEspin) - Kari helps educators design and create experiences and spaces that inspire, equip and empower people to move beyond their fears and maximize their impact in this world. Her special education background brings a perspective to gifted education that focuses on personalizing the learning experience.

Jessica Torres (@owl_b_torresedu) - Formerly an instructional coach and Assistant Principal, Jessica serves as the team's social media contact. Her administrative experience provides a unique perspective to help campuses & districts achieve excellence in student service design while meeting academic expectations.

House Bill 3

The Texas Legislature approved House Bill 3, the school finance and property tax reform bill that increases public education funding by $4.5 billion and earmarks more than $5 billion for school property tax compression.

In the new law, districts are required to continue G/T services. G/T requirements and certifications have been strengthened, in addition to the significant additional investment from the state to our schools.

TEA has created an HB 3 Update & FAQ website https://tea.texas.gov/hb3 and HB 3 in 30 webinar series to answer questions and provide updates about the new law and rules. On August 29, the G/T video will be released.

New Texas State Plan!

The State Plan provides requirements for and guidance to districts as they meet the unique needs of the gifted/talented population in Texas. Final approve for the revised plan was given June 2019.
