Delran High School Broadcast
November 18, 2021
A Message from Mr. Finkle!
Hello there DHS Community!
First and foremost, I wish to congratulate all of the Honor Roll and Principal's List students from Marking Period 1. Their work does not go unnoticed and they should truly be proud of their accomplishments inside of the classroom.
This will be the last broadcast before the Thanksgiving Holiday. It is hard to believe that this is my 10th Thanksgiving Holiday as the DHS Principal! I am truly thankful for being able to work with your children each and every day and the relationship that we have developed over the years. I wish each and everyone one of you a very joyous Thanksgiving spent with family and friends. Please enjoy this time and be thankful for all that we have! Please remember that we have a half day on November 24th and will be closed on the 25th and 26th.
What a great couple of weeks since I last communicated. In that time, the Girls Soccer team upset Governor Livingston with a gutsy win in overtime! The Football Team played Burlington Township to a tie; however, ultimately lost in overtime. The Golden Regiment brought home a National Championship, and the Boys Soccer Team has advanced to the State Finals! The game will be at Kean University on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 10:00 am.
As communicated with the students, we will have a Fan Bus going up to Kean University for the soccer game leaving the DHS parking lot at 8:00 am. HERE is the permission form that must be completed in order for your child to be included. The cost is $10 and includes transportation and entry into the game. The bus will be on a first come first served basis.
Before the soccer game, the Fall Play, "Plaza Suite" will be performed at 7:00 on both Friday and Saturday evenings. I cannot wait to see the students on the stage for the first time in over a year! Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
Next Tuesday we will hold our annual Powderpuff Football game in Joseph A. Chinnici Stadium at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. It is a wonderful event and I look forward to seeing a great crowd!
Hopefully everyone has had the opportunity to visit our homepage and has seen the daily announcements among other information and celebrations! Information is the key and we will continue to do our best to enhance it at every opportunity.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me at email@example.com or (856) 461-6100 x3005.

The Golden Regiment woke up early on Saturday, November 6th, traveled to the legendary J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown PA and left it all on the field. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, they came home with the USBands Group 1A National Championship!! They were also awarded best music performance, visual performance, and overall effect. Their score of 96.2 was the highest score earned by any band at the site. Congratulations to the GR for this amazing accomplishment, and for always keeping it classy. GO! BEARS! RAH, FIGHT, WIN!!
Energy Star Celebration
Since Delran Township Schools worked through an Energy Savings Improvement Program with Schneider Electric in 2017, three of our schools have earned ENERGY STAR certifications (DMS, Millbridge, and DHS). This means that three out of our four schools are in the top 1% of school buildings that have achieved this level. To celebrate this accomplishment, an event is being held on November 30th. Prior to speeches and flag-raising, members of the DHS Green Team will read children's books to second graders at Millbridge Elementary School. The books will highlight the importance of energy savings and our connection to nature.
UPDATES from our classrooms!
Hola, Guten Tag, Bon Jour,
World Language students in levels 4 and AP are getting ready for the Seal of Biliteracy Exam in January. Students prepare by writing letters, reading articles in their respective languages; French, Spanish, and German, as well as listening to cultural podcasts, and describing what they see in pictures.
It's an exciting time as we move into the holiday season and learn about the different types of holidays from all over the world. It's a time for music, food, and crafts in the introductory levels as they experience new traditions and celebrations.
To help the students prepare for an upcoming test, Mr. Winslow is using the Canvas interactive Discussion tool to solicit from the students' answers to questions that are posed in German. This allows the class as a whole to provide immediate feedback for the responses provided.
French II students will be "performing" a fashion show in class, taking turns being the runway models and announcers to practice clothing and adjective agreement.
In French 3, students have been learning about different hobbies and free-time activities. They are creating a video project about their daily routine and hobbies in French (like a vlog).
In French 4 students are comparing the past and the present and they are creating a video project about their childhood.
In AP French Language and Culture, students have been comparing issues like racism and immigration in France and the USA. They analyzed some French political drawings and they had to create similar ones about their own culture and the class discussed them afterward.
Production Design 1 and 2
Slot construction projects from the Production Design 1 and 2 students. Computer aid design to start and fabrication tools to finish.
Ornithology Club Fundraiser in the Fab Lab
Mr. Nate Petitte, Ornithology Club Advisor, shared these unique, laser-cut ornaments with his supervisor today. They are one of a kind, numbered ornaments. If you are interested in purchasing one for the holidays, contact a local Ornithology Club Member. The club meets briefly every other Thursday, with outings on Saturdays. This spring, they look forward to a Central Park NYC trip!

CAP Registration and Payment
RCBC just offered an extension on the CAP deadline to allow for students and their parents/ guardians enough time to complete the steps for registration. The final deadline for registrations will be Tuesday, November 30th. Follow the registration process that is detailed on the Guidance webpage by this new deadline. No registrations will be accepted after that date. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Grady in Guidance at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Many new scholarship opportunities are being posted on the Guidance webpage. Check back often as we make updates as information is received. Although many scholarships are exclusive to seniors, there are quite a few that accept applications from underclassmen.
For the most part, these scholarships are offered each year, so it’s a good idea for underclassmen to check out what is being offered and begin a “scholarship portfolio”. They can prepare the applications/essays, view the criteria, and think about letters of recommendation they may need.
NJ Association for College Admission Counseling
Virtual College Exploration is for all New Jersey Students. Explore this website as a great resource with over 150 recorded webinars!!
All students in 10th through 12th grades have an account, please see the Guidance Department Website for additional information.
All high school students are encouraged to explore college opportunities.
Mr. Guidotti's Update
We, like many other districts, are continuing to struggle with transportation for students and extracurricular activities due to a bus driver shortage. To combat this, we have changed game schedules and game times. We do, however, anticipate that there will be days that there just are no buses available. The Delran Township BOE has a Transportation by Private Vehicle policy (Policy 8660) in place for situations that may occur. In addition, the BOE along with the Superintendent has developed a permission process that would allow a driver of a student to carpool with other students in the event that a parent/guardian is unable to take their child to a board-approved activity. HERE is a permission form for parents who are able to transport their child to/from away sporting events. HERE is a permission form for parents who are unable to provide transportation, but agree to have their child transported by another parent. Students who drive are able to drive to the contest; however, they MAY NOT transport a teammate. In order for our students to get the most out of this school year, we must work together to develop solutions. Thank you so much for your support, patience, and understanding during these times of uncertainty.
We have been asked questions about our canine friends and whether they are allowed to attend home events. Unfortunately, the answer is no. Dogs are not allowed on district property at any time as we will not take on the liability. Please leave your dogs at home when you attend our events. Thank you very much!
The fitness center will be open Monday through Thursday from 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm. A fitness center permission form must be filled out and dropped off at the main office before permission is granted. The form can be found here. At this time, masks must be worn while using the fitness center.
Registration for DHS Unified Bowling is up and running. The first practice is on December 9th. If you are interested in being a part of this amazing program, please contact Joe Lewis at email@example.com. The registration link for this program is here.
Delran High School Winter sports will be back at DHS this year. Delran High School has the pixellot system from NFHS for live streaming events. It is a subscription service. $10.99 per month gives you access to all home events including wrestling, boys basketball, and girls basketball. In addition, you will have access to any away teams that also use the NFHS pixellot system like Moorestown and Pennsauken when the Bears play there. The link to order your subscription is https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/delran-high-school-delran-nj
The Boys Soccer team are South Group 2 sectional champions once again. A convincing 4-0 victory over West Deptford gave them their sixth sectional title in eight years. The Bears traveled to Rumson Fair-Haven on November 16 to compete against the Central Group 2 champion. The Bears poured on the offense in the second half and came away with a 6-2 victory. The Bears will now compete against #19 Ramsey for the Group 2 state championship on Saturday, November 20th. Tickets must be purchased online if you would like to attend. Tickets can be purchased at www.njsiaa.org/tickets. The game starts at 10:00 am and will be played at Kean University. Good luck Bears!
