A Message from Principal Nixon--May 9, 2022

Northwoods Families,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I would like to wish all of our Northwood mothers a belated Happy Mother's Day!! I hope your families helped make you feel loved and appreciated!

On a different note, I would like to send our Northwoods Community a big THANK YOU for going above and beyond to support our Booster fundraiser. With your help, we doubled our fundraising goal and raised $31,000! On behalf of our teachers and staff, I would like to express my heartfelt and sincere gratitude for your ongoing support. Over the coming months, a large portion of your contributions will be used to give our media center a major overhaul which will include new, flexible use furniture to replace existing furniture that was beginning to deteriorate from time and extended use. We will also be working to paint the walls, and reorganize our book collection to ensure that the media center space takes on a more modern and accessible look and functionality.

Additionally, I would like to give a special shout-out to our wonderful PTA. Their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice helped make the fundraiser possible. They have spent countless hours before, during, and after the fundraiser to ensure that everything operated smoothly, and they deserve special recognition and thanks for their efforts. Please join me in thanking our wonderful Northwoods PTA!!

Lastly, I've included the video of Mr. Lamb and me getting slimed! Enjoy :)

School Information

Non-Returning Family Survey:

Parents of current Kindergarten - 4th-grade students who are not returning to Northwoods for the 2022-23 school year are asked to complete this survey so that we may begin planning for future staffing needs. Families of rising 6th graders DO NOT need to complete the survey unless their child is transferring out of district or state.

Field Day:

Mark your calendars! Field Day is scheduled for May 13th with a tentative rain date of May 16th. Both dates have been added to our community calendar. More information, including our field day schedule, will be shared in the coming weeks.

Field Day Volunteers:

Mrs. Forsberg is in need of volunteers to help run games during field day. If you would like to volunteer, please sign-up for one or more slots on this sign-up. As a reminder, all volunteers must first complete the WCPSS Volunteer Registration application.

Yearbooks:

Our 2021-22 yearbooks have arrived and will be distributed to students during the last week of school.

End-of-Grade (EOG) Assessments:

All 3rd-5th grade students (including students participating in Virtual Academy) are REQUIRED to take their End-of-Grade Assessments this year. All assessments will be administered in person between May 27th and June 10th. Specific testing dates for each grade level are posted on our website and are noted below.

End-of-Grade Retesting:

During the last ten days of the school year (May 27th-June 10th), students in grades 3-5 will participate in the regular administration of North Carolina End-of-Grade (EOG) tests. Students who score Level 3, Level 4, or Level 5 on these assessments are considered proficient. Students who do not score a Level 3 or higher on the regular administration and have passed the course/subject associated with the corresponding EOG assessment will have the option to participate in a Remediation and Readministration opportunity on June 14th and June 15th. More information will be sent directly to your family should your child qualify for EOG Remediation and Readministration.
