DCES Panther News

October 23, 2019

Dear Panther Families,

Last year, our school asked for legislative funds for two projects: an update to our security system, and xeriscaping our front weed patch. Both of these projects were funded! Due to the generosity of our local lawmakers, Representative William Pratt and Senator Mark Moores, one of our projects has begun! The xeriscape project is under way! You will see that the front weed patch will get some bushes and trees, and our front sidewalk will get a block retaining wall to keep the gravel off the path. We will be sending a huge THANK YOU to Representative Pratt and Senator Moores!

Please also be aware of the construction around this project and help us keep our children safe by staying on sidewalks, following any posted signs, and remaining out of the way of heavy equipment.

Flu Shot Clinic: Our school will be hosting a flu shot clinic for students and families on November 19th from 2:00-6:00pm located near the front office. Please be on the lookout for more information.

Grading Changes: I feel like I just wrote about changes to the grading system. Please erase what I wrote from your memory. APS has reviewed the changes that were in place for the year, and have decided to hold off on making those changes to the grading system. Our students will now be graded on progress on standards made up to this point in the year. Our teachers are aware of this change (back) and will be ready to help you understand grading at our Parent Teacher Conferences (November 25-26).

Bond and Mill Levy Election- November 5th!

Please support APS students during the Bond Election.

This bond does not:
-increase your tax rate

-go toward administrative salaries

This bond would support:

-school repairs (did you know Dennis Chavez had 5 leaky roof reports since August?)

-upgrades HVAC (our school had 11 HVAC issues reported since August)

-upgrades to safety and security in our schools

A vote 'yes,' is a vote to support our schools!

Early voting is already taking place. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th- (which is also a day off for our students.)
