Buckeye Intermediate Buzz
February
Principal Buzz with Mrs. Kelli Davisson
We have already completed one month of the new year and classrooms are busy with 3rd quarter materials/concepts/skills. I have been visiting many classrooms the last few weeks and students are working very hard. 4th graders were writing amazing MLK Jr. essay's, while 5th graders were knee deep in fractions, and our 6th graders were exploring many different materials using microscopes in the Science Lab. Please be sure to check out the rest of the February newsletter for many important dates/events.
If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email or phone kdavisson@buckeyeschools.org 330-722-8237 ext. 4342.
School Counselor Buzz with Ms. Gabrielle Roberts
Hello Buckeye Intermediate School students and families! My name is Ms. Roberts and I will be working as a long-term school counselor substitute while Ms. Zablotny is out on maternity leave. Let me share a bit about myself. I am originally from Toledo, Ohio and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Childhood Education from Bowling Green State University in May 2014. I taught 4th Grade ELA and Social Studies in Toledo, Ohio where I cultivated a real passion for the field of School Counseling. I earned my Master’s Degree in School Counseling in May 2019 from Cleveland State University; so, I am ecstatic to be back working with intermediate grade students! Just a few fun facts about myself: I am a HUGE Ohio State Buckeyes Football fan, I like to read, practice yoga, run for fun, and I enjoy being outdoors hiking and camping whenever I get the chance. I am so looking forward to getting to know you all these next three months!

Buckeye Latchkey Program 2020-21
The nationally recognized after-school enrichment provider, Right at School, is coming to the Buckeye Local School District! Starting next fall, Right at School will assume responsibility for before and/or after-school care at Buckeye Elementary School, for our Kindergarten through Sixth Grade students.
For those who wish to participate in the before and/or after-school program, it will be available every day school is in session, from 7:00 am until 6:00 pm. Parents will be able to work with Right at School to create flexible monthly schedules to support families’ busy lives by simply choosing 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 days per week. Drop-in care is also an option. This allows parents to only pay for the days for which care is needed. Right at School may also be available during breaks, non-school days, and summer.
We selected Right At School to provide families flexibility in enrollment options and a comprehensive enrichment curriculum to keep our students engaged while they participate. Students will have a healthy snack, engage in dynamic fitness activities, student-driven projects, team building, leadership development, and have the opportunity to complete homework. The program also features a 10% sibling discount and a 20% discount for free and reduced lunch families. Registration will be open beginning February 17, 2020.
Right At School is hosting a “Parent Informational Meeting” to provide an overview of their programs, to answer questions, and to interact with you. Please plan on attending.
Date: Thursday, February 6, 2020
Location: Buckeye Elementary Cafeteria, 3180 Columbia Road
Time: 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
For more information we encourage you to also visit Right At School’s website HERE. We look forward to enhancing the educational experience of our students and parents through this exciting partnership.
Responsible Social Values Program (RSVP) - February 3 - 7 (6th grade)
School climate is affected positively for students who are taught good character and friendship qualities, the meaning of immediate and delayed gratification, and learn to avoid risk behaviors such as premarital sexual activity, alcohol and drug use.
RSVP is designed to encourage family-centered education recognizing that you, as parents or guardians, are the primary educators and source of guidance for your child. As such, you are providing your child with the foundations of positive character traits and family-held values, which enable your child to make positive, healthy, choices. The opportunity to work with parents/guardians to promote smart and healthy choices through this character based risk-avoidance education program is welcomed. RSVP Parent Meetings and parent/guardian child homework help stimulate communication between students and their families.
Kids Heart Challenge - February 19-21
For many years, Buckeye elementary has participated in the American Heart Association's initiative to provide schools with valuable heart healthy information. For one PE class, the students learn a variety of heart healthy jumping techniques and then jump rope to promote their own heart health. We learn the value of cardio exercise and how it benefits our heart muscle and the importance of taking good care of our hearts.
Students in grades 3-6 have the opportunity to choose to participate in a fundraising portion of the program that benefits those that depend on the American Heart Association for the wonderful programming, funding, and research they provide. Again, the fund raising portion is optional.
Our students have done an excellent job over the years of raising funds and showing how much they support this organization and all they do. Fundraising envelopes will be distributed February 3-5 for interested students in grades 3-6. The actual days for the Heart Challenge will be February 19-21. The last day students may turn in their fundraising envelopes will be February 28th. There will be an online donation option. Any monies returned in the envelope must be in check form.
Thank you for supporting this fun and very informative program. Our students love the day of learning new jumping techniques, helping others, and helping their own hearts be healthy, happy, and strong.

Over winter break, students had the option of participating in the Winter Break Reading Challenge. Students could choose at least 10 marshmallow challenges that appealed to them. Once challenges were complete, the students could glue them to one of the marshmallows on their Winter Break Reading Challenge mug.
When we returned to school from Winter Break, students that participated in the challenge were served hot chocolate, marshmallows, and peppermints by BIS Principal, Mrs. Kelli Davisson.
