A MESSAGE FROM MR. COLE

Hello Pine Road Families!

Welcome to December! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving break! This year November seemed to go by like a flash! In addition to some time to rest and connect with loved ones, I trust that you have had the opportunity to meet or talk with your child’s teacher and have a good idea of how your student is doing with their school progress.

As always, December is an exciting and busy month as we prepare for the winter break and begin the winter holiday season. Check out some important dates that are outlined below!

As always, winter also brings cold and flu season! Please remind your children to practice good hygiene (cover coughs and wash hands frequently) to stay healthy and in school!

Additionally, the cold weather has arrived! Please be sure that your children come to school prepared to go outside for recess. Students WILL be going outside as often as possible. Students will not be allowed to stay indoors because they are not appropriately dressed, so please have coats, hats, and gloves ready! Details about recess and weather policies can be found in our Handbook and are included below:

OUTDOOR RECESS

  • “Feels Like” Temperature is between 21 and 89 degrees.

ABBREVIATED RECESS (15 minutes)

  • “Feels Like” Temperature is between 15 and 20 degrees or between 90 and 95 degrees.

INDOOR RECESS

  • “Feels Like” Temperature is below 15 degrees or above 95 degrees.

Wishing you all a safe and joyous holiday season, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year!

Sincerely,

Scott Cole

Principal

Pine Road Highlights

One Warm Coat

For the month of December, we are asking for donations of gently used adult and youth winter coats so that we can give the gift of warmth to people who need it. All people deserve to be warm during our winter months. Unfortunately, the cost of a winter coat is simply one that some people cannot afford.

Name Coach

NameCoach is an easy-to-use tool that allows students, teachers, support staff, and administrators to record how their name should be pronounced, as well as hear how others’ names should be pronounced. NameCoach can help build a sense of belonging and community while demonstrating Lower Moreland Township School District's commitment to equity and inclusion. NameCoach allows users to easily record the correct pronunciation of their name using the online recording tool.

Students in grades K-5 will use the NameCoach web application to record their name. Teachers will share a link with students in Google Classroom that will provide access to the recording tool. While this tool is available to all district students and employees, use of the NameCoach tool is completely optional.

Supporting New Families at Pine Road

In our district, we are lucky to have students and families who are from diverse cultures. Did you know that in our district, we have over 30 languages spoken?

To better support our new families, we would like to invite you to participate in serving as a mentor. As a mentor, you would be responsible for explaining school routines and special events and answering any questions that arise.

For those families who do not speak English as their native language, working with a mentor family who speaks the same language could be very helpful in learning to navigate our school system.

If you are interested in volunteering your time, please complete THIS form. New families would contact you upon their arrival to the district.

Cafeteria Reminder

Lunch menus are posted on a new interactive website, Nutrislice. Our innovative and interactive site and mobile app make our school menus more convenient and informative than ever before! Download the Nutrislice App from the App Store or get it on Google Play and search Lower Moreland.

Friendly reminder that the universal free lunch has ended, however starting October 1st free breakfast will be returning! Students that would like a free breakfast in the morning will walk straight to the cafeteria upon arrival. Students can eat breakfast in the cafeteria and granola bars, muffins, and cereal bars are also available if your student would like to save their breakfast for snack time.

Information on the Free or Reduced Lunch Prices can be found on the nutrition page on our LMTSD website.

Field Trip Assistance

As field trips are scheduled, if you are unable to afford field trips, please reach out to your student's counselor, as assistance may be available.
